Great read, interesting insider viewpoint
A very enjoyable read, well written and informative. George Karalus and his wife Barbara were my godparents - sweet, kind, and gentle people. I always knew that George was involved with special investigations. I did not know he was this involved. Barbara died in 2001. George lived until 2019. When I was reading his obituary, I saw that he had co-authored this book and could not wait to read it. I know so much more about George and his work because of this book. Very happy with this!

True accounts
I read this book for a couple reasons. One being that I grew up around the West Side in the 70’s. I was reading to see if any of my friends dads were involved with Stefano. Of course, they were. I had no idea what was going on at the Psychiatric Center in the 70’s, besides patient care! That was interesting. It was a good read.

fun to read
I grew up around these colorful people, everybody (all my fellow girlfriends) was afraid to talk out loud about the Maggadinos, so it is fun to hear all the details in this book. Our parents used to laugh about the Maggadino funeral home, where six great big men would be struggling to carry a casket containing a little tiny old lady...the implication being it was a two story coffin with a man underneath! We knew Stefano was locally powerful, nationally I still have my doubts... Matt gets the award for most and longest run-on sentences, but he has allways been a wonderful journalist with the Buffalo News, and I'm happy to find his book here. I want to post it on FB so Niagara Falls ex-pats can "buy-the-book". I remember when Stefano would be called to testify at a trial, and my doctor would be called to pop him into the hospital with a "bad heart", too dangerous for him to testify! They said he took over the whole floor at St. Mary's hospital, to run his business from there. Hahaha I don't know if that is true, but it was exciting. As is much of this book.

Interesting details of local mob.
Lots of details regarding mobsters and their business. Many lengthy run on sentences made for the teacher in me wanting to break out the "red pen." A good read for WNY enthusiasts.

Brings back memories
I grew up in Buffalo’s west side, In Allentown area then across from 400 Forest Ave. and went to many of the same locations in their book, never knowing what was happening there.

Awful truly a waste of my time
Awful truly a waste of my time. No story same lines over and over " the boys " heard on the wire and let some police dept know. I actually threw it in the trash, I didn't even bother to recycle it. May be the worst Mob book I've ever read.
