Outstanding guide if you are looking for a Luger P08
This 'Catalog' covers all Lugers 1945 and prior (and even some post WWII commercial Lugers). It includes history of Lugers, their mechanics, markings, manufacturer, features and accessories. It also includes collecting advice. If you are looking for a luger, this is a very good book to have. Let me explain how it works. Once you have read up on the history and mechanics of the Lugers and you think you have a specific Luger in mind, there are INDEX LOOKUP CHART(S) whereby you can find the details of any Luger by either looking how the chamber is marked OR how the toggle is marked. This Index Lookup Chart has a very comprehensive lookup 'path' that you can then follow that will eventually lead you to a detailed page that will give you details of the Luger you are looking up. There are about 204 pages of this detail information with one each of these pages dedicated to a specific Luger. For example; I was interested in a 1940 Luger I spotted at a local Gun Show. The toggle was labeled '42'. Following the 'path' thru the chart using the manufacture date of 1940 on the barrel and 42 on the toggle, I was directed by the Index Lookup Chart to a full page of detailed info that is specific to that particular Luger. On the detail page it told me that the Luger was a Mauser code 42 (with a four digit date and not a two digit date), that it was a military issue pistol, the approx number of these Lugers manufactured (133,700), a four inch barrel, the type of sights, extractor, magazine, serial number range, serial number location and the type of markings that are specific to this Luger (Manufactures code, Military Test Fire Proof symbol and Acceptance Mark symbol). It also gives the Values of the pistol based on condition: Poor, Fair, Good, VG and Exc. With this reference book, you should be able to intelligently identify virtually any P08 Luger and what features/markings it should have (and for that matter what features/marking it should not have)and what its value should be. I think this book would be ideal to have for the beginner, intermediate and advanced Luger collector.

Get this if you are in the market for a LUGER.
.....I was interested in buying a Luger pistol, but knew very little about these historic pistols. Their prices can be quite high, and it is easy to be taken advantage of. I got this book and was able to learn quite a lot about the various differences between different models (and there are a LOT!)......While I don't feel the price guides were of that much use, the detailed listings of what to look for, and what each marking, etc., meant was invaluable when looking at various guns. I could now tell what I was looking for, and what I was looking at! While there are a couple of Luger references which give much more information, and possibly more qualified information, they are MUCH more expensive, and hard to find. Due to this, I felt I made a very good decision.

Review of Standard Luger Catalog
This is an extremely informative and organized source for determining the type, history and value of your luger, as well as some accessories like clips and holsters. There is also some very helpful advice on dos and don'ts when it comes to purchasing your luger as to what to look for and what to be weary of. The index is extremely accurate allowing you to quickly look up where your luger was manufactured and how many were built that year, along with the general rarity of the model. An overall very valuable reference book. The price references are out of date, prices have increased since the publication, so check current prices online, or ask a trusted dealer.

Great source of info on P.08 pistols
Being new to the world of Luger collecting, I found the information in this book very useful. The values given are, of course, outdated. I also found the Kindle edition to be more difficult to navigate when attempting to follow the taxonomy paths used to identify Luger variations.

This book enabled me to easily identify my latest purchase
This is a fabulous book. This book enabled me to easily identify my latest purchase. Each version is given a reference number and makes it easy to record exactly what you have. Let's say you have an S/42 - you can go straight to that category and see all the variations by year. Seems to me that if you don't have this book at hand, you are taking a risk every time you purchase a Luger.

A Luger Reference
Tis is a dry read. You can't expect it to read like a novel. It is a well written reference, and it cnoains improsnt history, but also some very important points of rarity. It should be a rough guide regarding value of Lugers. It is!. The value of a firearm boils down to what someone is willing to pay. For this, it is a good guide.

Hard to ID them with electronic means
This might be different with a reader or a tablet but I have it on a laptop and it is very hard going back and forth when looking at a Luger and trying to identify it. I guess real books have their purpose still. It was a very detailed book that I did enjoy reading. I'm not too sure about some of those price estimates but those would be hard to cover anyway.
