The back of the hat has an adjustable velcro strap with a gap to put your hair through if you tie it back. The top zips off so it can be used as a visor or if like me you place your hat on your face while sunbathing, you can undo the zip a bit to increase airflow. the ribbon at the back is fasteners on with poppers, I've removed it as I don't need that bit. Packs away easily for travel, I rolled mine so it didn't crease as much. I was a bit confused about how you tie the bow at the back as it doesn't come with the bow already formed, but I think I worked it out by looking at the listing photos. The hat gives a great amount of shade and is super lightweight, it would fit in a smallish handbag easily.
