Shyamalan shot it comic book style, plus a twist you won't see coming...
And when you do find out what happened, you may say "Wow...wow..." and just grin to yourself for how well this story line was revealed throughout the movie.Speaking of the movie, if you're looking for a Spaghetti Western meets H.B. Kalicki shoot 'em up/car chase adventure, this isn't it.If you want something of a psychological thriller meets comic book hero genesis, you're here. A recurring theme is comic books and their heroes. The movie's cinematography (composition, camera moves, etc.), lighting, and the two main characters' colors (green for Willis; purple for Jackson) were purposefully comic book style and intentionally chosen. That is, if you've see frames in a comic book, imagine what they would look like in a real movie with real people and you'll get the idea. What this also means is we have an increasingly defined villain and increasingly defined hero. You'll have to watch to find out who is who. There is sublime foreshadowing along the way for Hitchcock aficianados to admire, though they won't come together until the end.If you're the action movie type, you may find parts of Unbreakable slow. However, this is for development purposes and it serves the story well. Also, this isn't mindless zaniness (for that, I recommend UHF), so to follow the story you'll need to give it some attention. You'll be rewarded in the last minutes when all is revealed.

They keep getting better and better and better...
I had first watched this movie not long after it came out on DVD. Loved it then love it now. Watched it the other night with hubby, who hadn't seen it and he enjoyed it very much so. After watching "Split" last year and discovering they're bothe written and directed annnnd produced by M. Night Shamalayn ,I was even more excited to own the set! Here's a great directory, writer and producer and his films always talks you too places you never expect! Now, there's a third movie..."Glass" that go along with the other two. I haven't watched it yet but hunny and I plan to soon! I'm really looking forward to it! I'm sure it will be as good and enjoyable as the first two! I recommend you watch these if you like suspense, the supernatural and mind boggling story lines.Thank you Mr. M. Night Shamalayn for yet another great movie!

2nd best M.Night?
Bruce Willis's best work since 6th Sense and M. Night's also... a story that can be re-watched even after the plot twist is revealed with little loss of enjoyment. AND great co-stars in Samuel S. Jackson and Robin Wright

Great concept never realized about whether comic books became real
Unbreakable was a film by M. Night Shyamalan. It was based upon comic books which is what the opening talks about. It features Bruce Willis a David Dunn who turns out to have superpowers and Samuel L. Jackson as Elijah Price who is a supervillain. The title is a pun upon those two characters as Dunn proves unbreakable when he gets into a train crash while Price has a condition that makes his bones brittle and can break on anything. The movie explores what if comic books were real. Unfortunately the movie never really develops. While I like the concept of Unbreakable I don’t like the pace. It lays out the story so slowly. It spends so much time just going over whether David has powers, what they are, and what his weaknesses are. On top of that, he doesn’t even really use them until the very end. If Shyamalan had sped things up and provided some payoffs earlier on this would have been so much better. The ending is horrible as well as everything just abruptly concludes with no big showdown or anything. What could have been great therefore, proves very disappointing instead.C

Oh Man.....a ABSOLUTE MUST...
I dont know where to begin explaining the why and how come.....BUY this movie. I've seen it b4 and still am NEVER disappointed watching it again. Good v Evil.....this movie has twists you wouldn't believe and the actors are positively AWESOME....To you who are unaware....this movie should be watched in sequence, and a new one is coming out in April (Glass), a continuation of this particular movie. The "David Dunn" sequence of films by Shyamalan is:UnbreakableSplitGlass

Import version of Unbreakable is playable in any Region, ignore what Amazon says...
I just got the UK edition of Unbreakable on here for $10.00 and it plays perfectly in North America. If you look at the photo of the back cover it says 'A, B, C' Region Code which is shy I ordered it despite Amazon saying it was B only.It was put out by Beuna Vista both in the U.S. and UK markets and Disney products are almost always Region Free coded.I picked up Split for $6.99 as well on Amazon which is a Universal release - wanted to have both of these finally on BluBefore Go as came out!Love all 3 films, a perfect Trilogy in my opinion just a bit more realistic than Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy cause these guys don't wear costumes but both are written and shot with a very naturalistic/realistic tone which I love.I think people who hated Glass went in with expectations. All 3 are superb films but the Fanboys forgot that Unbreakable and Split were the opposite of what you expect a Superhero/Supervillain Film to be, and so was Glass.Anyway, order either release of Unbreakable, either U.S. or UK because they both play anywhereAnd the video quality is very very good. Split looks fantastic too...

An alternative take on the superhero genre
Another great effort by M. Night Shyamalan. Unbreakable is actually a superhero film, but not in the traditional sense of a blockbuster explosion extravaganza. This film has a thoughtful written plot with more sussed out character development. It tackles the superhero genre in a unique and refreshing way, resulting in a film with superb performances, a well-executed slow burn mystery.

A Criminally Under Rated Movie (No Spoilers)
I can't believe there are people leaving one star reviews of this movie on here. Honestly it seems like people have such short attention spans these days they can't just sit and watch a movie that doesn't have an action sequence every 5 seconds. Absolutely ridiculous. This movie is somewhat of a slow burner but I personally think it works so well. It gives us time to understand the characters and I just love Shyamalans story telling, In one of the early scenes we see Bruce Willis remove his wedding ring as an attractive woman sits next to him. It's such a subtle thing but it already explains a lot without directly force feeding it to the viewer. There are many more instances like this that help explain things that happen later in the story.I also think this is one of Bruce Willis's best performances. His subdued nature really conveys a sense of pain/regrets from his past. Samuel L Jackson is also great in this too.As mentioned this film is a slow burner but the action sequences that are in this are directed perfectly. Shyamalan keeps them basic but hard hitting, combined with the amazing score of the film by James Newton Howard the second half I found to be so emotional. This is arguably one of M.Night Shyamalans greatest films ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Leave a like if you agree or I convinced you to watch this amazing movie)

Unique and intriguing
A football stadium security guard, who's life seems to have something missing, escapes completely unscathed after a train crash in which he was the lone survivor. Left without even a scratch, his miraculous survival draws the attention of an eccentric comic book collector with a secret. Some mild spoilers.Perhaps the directors most heavily plotted film to date, Unbreakable is definitely not for those looking for an action packed adventure with car chases and lots of explosions. Not that there is anything wrong with that, however if you are looking for an intelligent Hitchcockian thriller that starts slow and then accelerates towards a superb final twist then look no further. Perhaps it's me but I felt the film's story, construction tone and execution were similar to Vertigo, now regarded as one of the greatest films ever made.Bruce Willis and Samuel L Jackson both give absolutely fantastic performances in the twin lead roles. The director/writer provides both actors terrific introductions and then gives the roles time to grow, and also allows the story to unfold at a leisurely but always interesting pace. As a result I was interested in them, I cared about them and wanted to know more about their lives and histories. Just enough back story is shoehorned into the screenplay to further flesh out our characters and this also helps to cushion that rather heavy plot. With enough directorial style to sink a battleship Unbreakable has tonnes of style to add to that intriguing premise and should keep you glued to your set just to see how it all pans out. It's unlikely that you will guess the unexpected twist end even if you do watch very carefully. I was fooled and was pleasantly surprised and delighted to be outwitted. It's so refreshing when a film is actually not predictable. As with all clever stories you do need to watch, listen and actually think just a bit, and of course the director expects you to do a bit of work yourself and does not spoon-feed you the story. This is a story you need to watch in one uninterrupted viewing if at all possible. All the other actors equip themselves very well and there is not one case of miscasting. However it has to be said that Willis and Jackson suck up every inch of the screen and the intelligent script keeps you listening to the great dialogue, especially from Jackson, which in my view is as good as Tarantino any day. With good special effects, a nice other worldly and atmospheric soundtrack and quite beautiful lighting photography, Unbreakable is a quality production by anybody's standard. At 102 minutes it does not outstay it's welcome but still feels long enough to be a proper movie experience. With the recent Split and the upcoming Glass, these three films are apparently a trilogy of sorts so you may want to revisit this first episode before you take a trip to the multiplex.Tremendous entertainment.

M NIGHT SHYAMALAN’S CLEVER, NOVEL, ENGROSSING FILM.
This is a review of the 2008 All Region Blu-ray from Walt Disney Studios. The quality is very good, and the disc contains plenty of interesting extras.M Night Shyamalan is a genuine puzzle. He is the real deal, in that he writes, directs and produces his own films ~ no mean task. And over more than twenty years, he has provided us with plenty of genuinely original work, of which some has been really very good, and very thought provoking. With only his second film, ‘The Sixth Sense’(1999), which he made whilst still in his twenties, he created something seriously special, a film which manages to be both scary and sympathetic, and intensely emotional. His Sci-fi chiller, ‘Signs’(2002), is less good, but still effective, and ‘The Village’(2004) is both clever and handsome, as well as quite terrifying in places. Other more recent works, such as ‘The Happening’(2008) and Sci-Fi shocker (and I don’t mean in the scary film sense of the word ~ it is dire!) ‘After Earth’(2013) have been panned ~ rightly.Shyamalan seems to have had little difficulty in attracting stars to work on his projects. Bruce Willis is a revelation in ‘Sixth Sense’, showing an ability to work closely and sensitively with 11 year-old Haley Joel Osment that you could not predict from watching his muscular tough-guy roles, in the ‘Die Hard’ films for example. In this, Shyamalan’s third film, made in 2000, talented young actor Spencer Treat Clark, playing Willis’s son Joseph, is a couple of years older, but is no knowing teenager. Again, Willis is excellent as a warm, engaged and loving father, in a difficult situation. He also gives a persuasive performance as the deeply reluctant and slightly mystified object of Samuel L Jackson’s bizarre fixation. Jackson himself, in a more smoothly polished, less street-wise, role than his usual fare, is very good as the medically-challenged, single-minded, odd-ball.As with others of his early films, Shyamalan’s clever and novel idea behind his plot and script is both entertaining and thought-provoking. And he takes the idea and runs with it, very effectively. The story plays out largely in Philadelphia, and uses a familiar Shyamalan plot device of taking what appears a very normal, ordinary, setting, and adding an idea totally out of left field. The film begins with a very scary event, and there are other beautifully-created moments of tension throughout, together with some well-acted domestic scenes. Shyamalan is particularly adept at miniaturising big ideas and viewing them through a domestic lens ~ ‘Signs’ is a good example. And as ever, Shyamalan keeps us on our toes and guessing, right up to the very end. I am still unsure that I know what the conclusion really is, and that is good, because it makes you think. So, a thoroughly enjoyable, engrossing film, some very good performances, several really well-staged set pieces. Not Shyamalan’s best film, but a very good high 4(½) Stars.

Compelling and down to earth (super) hero story
Very surprisingly compelling and down to earth (super) hero story. Reinventing the archetypal superhero origin and story arch, this brings home just how extraordinary some seemingly ordinary people are or can be. Such a discovery has its ramifications on the personal and family life of the individules concerned.Really well directed and acted. Good photography, editing and a very well written and sympathetic music score.1st of 3 films; highly recommend.

Night Shyamalan's best movie by far IMHO
M. Night Shyamalan's best movie by far IMHO. Theres so much in this movie I'll have to sit and write a proper review of it sometime (I do YouTube reviews), but I know its going to be a big task! It amazes me how much viewers often miss in the movie. Along with Split and the upcoming (as of time of writing) Glass makes up a more "true to life" super-hero trilogy.
