Perfect for its purpose
This little flashlight is perfect for its purpose; it is made for hobbiests to see without damaging night vision. The brightness ranges from illuminating twelve inches away to illuminating about twenty feet away. There is a slight audible click when turning the wheel to “on”. It is slightly larger than a 9v battery (see photo). The battery attaches to the circuit board, rather than just resting upon it. The battery and board are not firmly held in place, such that they can rattle in the housing. There is no reflector/mirror, which helps the light output be reduced; a side effect of this is the light isn’t as well “shaped” as other flashlights - with lots of bright and dim areas. These bright and dim areas are not a hinderance to being used by hobbiests, but this is not a flashlight lighting pattern that would please all casual users. I’ve read some people say that they can flash people with this flashlight at its lowest setting without disrupting dark adjustment, however it is only less disrupted; it’s much less than one of those high-powered lights.I’m no electrical expert, but it appears there is room on the board for additional lights/switches if you are so inclined. Again, see photo. This could be used to add white or UV LEDs/switches. You could also add your own deeper-red LEDs or similar LEDs with a different type of switch - maybe one that works by tapping it for mobility issues.

Great for Star Parties
It works great for helping people seeing the telescope lens to look through.

Excellent starlite for the hobby astronomer
I purchased this Rigel in the fall and used it during my trip to the Okie-Tex Star Party in Oklahoma. The flashlight can be hung around your neck or kept in your hand. The dimming function is the feature that makes this a great tool for the observer or photographer. I used the light to shine on the front of a street sign as the foreground in my composition of a shot of the Milky Way. I recommend this wholeheartedly.

Not worth the money.
Not worth the money. The top keeps coming off and the insides keep falling out. I had to tape it together to keep it from doing this.

Still working after 13+ years
I found this in a box of astronomy stuff I hadn’t used in many years. I turned it on and it still lights up with the old battery. How old? Well, there’s an annual sky guide in the box from 2009, so at least 13 years. I popped in a new battery and it’s good as new. Excellent product, then and now.
