So many uses! Fantastic product
I had previously purchased an indoor remote to control a lamp from across the room when I was in bed. This one works the same way, could easily be used indoors, but stands up to outdoor weather. You plug the pronged plug into an outlet and then anything you plug into the device can be controlled with a remote (with a very long reach). Has an on and off button. Bulb on remote lights up briefly when buttons are pushed.OUTDOOR DECOR: This outdoor one has come in very handy for cafe lights I have outside. Our outdoor socket is very high off the ground, essentially right up against the roof on the outside wall of our house. It takes a ladder to reach it. I plugged this into the high socket and plugged my strand lights into the device. Now, whenever I want the cafe light ambiance, I click the "on" button on the remote.PETS & PESTS: We have a very large back yard and only one back porch light, so once I had the strand lights in place, I was able to light up the back yard whenever I let my dogs out at night. Because they are small and we have a lot of wild animals around (including skunks), it is nice to be able to light up my yard with the touch of a button (and without the permanent installation of lighting). This device even works from inside the house! I can be sitting on my couch inside the living room and turn on and off the outdoor lighting. For people with gardens and deer who like to pay their gardens a visit; plug a small radio into this device outside. When you're inside at night you can click the button and have the radio turn on to shoo the deer out of the yard.HOME SAFETY: This is great for safety. If someone were to be in my yard, I could light it up without coming to the wall to flip a switch.HOLIDAY DECOR: It's also great for holiday decorations. When you don't want to be stuck with the settings of a timer and you don't want to go out in the cold to plug in lighting, you can use this little remote to turn on and off holiday decor/lighting from inside the house.HALLOWEEN/PRANKS: Because this can be plugged in anywhere, it can be used to set scary moods and pull off pranks. Lights, tvs, halloween figures, can be turned on and off from a distance (hiding place).SURPRISE PARTIES: Set up festive lights, music, etc. on one remote. As you walk your "surprise party victim" up to the house, you can click on the lights yourself using the remote in a pocket or purse, simultaneously indicating to everyone to say "surprise".SPACE HEATERS/FANS: Instead of getting up out of bed or from a desk to turn on and off a fan or space heater, use the remote. Stay in the warmth of the bed and be able to turn off heat before the room gets too warm.LIGHTS WITH SWITCHES ON THE CORD: I have wall lights/sconces with switches on the cords. The cords run down the wall behind several living room chairs. Instead of having to lean over the chairs, I can use the remote to turn the lights on and off. You can also use this idea to turn on and off an electric strip (although I wouldn't plug in devices that require too much power). This way you can turn on multiple lamps at once to achieve softer lighting than flipping on a main switch to overhead lighting.Anything you can plug in, can be controlled via remote. This device worked so perfectly for my needs and is so easy and reliable that I will undoubtedly buy several more.

Wish I could order specific Channels
I ordered several different brands of remote control switches like this one, in the same price range, but this unit stands out from the others! We live in a rather remote area, and we have a pretty extensive security system that includes 16 IR Color Cameras. The cameras are of such quality that their pictures at night are almost as clear as during the day. Having this system, we've found that it's usually better for us to have NO visible lights on outside at night... Up here, "lights" would just help a thief find his way around easier. Without external visible lights, we can see anything moving around outside, while anyone outside stumbles around in total darkness, believing that they're "Hidden" in the darkness. They aren't "hidden" at all. That's also where this Remote Control Switch comes into play here... Usually there's no need to have on all of the outdoor IR Floodlights since even the light from a crescent moon is plenty for our Low-Lux Cameras... but there ARE times when you want to really "light things up" outside, and this remote switch does an EXCELLENT job for that!I've seen complaints about "poor distances" in other reviews, as well as people saying they get far greater ranges than advertised. "Poor distance ranges" are often a case of built-in filters doing their job and filtering out nearby stray signals when it comes to "Matched Units" like these. You don't want your switches constantly being turned on and off by a neighbor's baby monitor or something. When there are no competing signals that need to be filtered, the ranges can really open up! For example, from my home office in the back part of our house, the signal from the Key-chain remote must pass through three walls, travel exactly 82 feet, and then penetrate the wall of a work-shop outside to turn on several IR Spotlights mounted under the eaves of the work-shop! It does this easily here!A similar unit made by a different manufacturer ("Skylink") hangs right beside this "Woods" unit out in the Work-Shop, attached to a 500 Watt Halogen Floodlight that is used to light up part of the Pasture where our horses are. Sometimes I have to kinda wave that unit's Remote Control around in the air to make the Halogen lights turn on, or off, which is why I came over here to see if I could find another Woods Unit on Channel B or C... but I don't see an option to order specific channels with the Woods units like there is with the other types I bought. On some of our more expensive Remote Switches you can set the channel yourself inside the units, but I don't think that's the case with these less expensive models. Still, this Woods Switch has been fantastic so far, especially considering the price!I also use a similar type remote Switch to turn off my office equipment. When I finish working there are some things that need to be left on (Computers, etc), but the Bose Sound System, printers, scanners, Flat-Screen monitors, etc, etc, can all be turned off with one remote control switch laying on my desk, saving me from having to turn off that stuff individually when done for the day! I just plug a power strip into the remote receiver unit, and plug the equipment that can be turned off into that strip (Watch the total wattage!)... it works really well, and saves me a lot of time and trouble, as well as easing the draw from the Battery Banks at night once the sun is off the Solar Panels! There are LOTS of uses for these remote switches!

Works amazing for my Dust Collector
Installed this as a remote start for my woodworking dust collector. I hang the remote on my shop apron so I can turn the DC on anywhere in my shop. I have also accidently turned the DC on while inside the house, which is attached to the shop but not that close. Compared to buying purpose made remote control setups for Dust Collectors, this is so much more economical. If you have some basic electrical theory knowledge then I highly recommend using this over the commercial purpose built options on the market. But please pay attention to your DC motor ratings and consult a licensed electrician if you aren't capable. I had to use the switched outlet part to fire a motor contactor as my Dust Collector amperage is over the rating of the device.

Excellent
I use this remote switch to control string lights on my patio. Works perfectly (with no set-up, just plug it in) from 25ft away, is compact, and is a known brand name. Would purchase again.

Works Great...
This remote works great. It's being used with an extension cord to a block heater for my truck. The truck is parked in our driveway in front of the house, not in a garage. So, I can see the unit through the living room window, and its bright red light indicates that the block heater is getting juice. The remote's range is excellent. I can turn the power on or off from the basement. No problems even when temperatures go down to -30C. Don't have to go outside in the cold to plug in the block heater any more. I used to have a device which allowed me to program timed settings. That was ok when I was working and had a regular driving routine. Now I'm retired, and this unit is more suitable. I can turn it on or off any time.As a side point: If a vehicle has to be parked in such a way, that the little red light on the remote unit can not be seen from inside the house, an outdoor power cord splitter could be used, to channel power to both the block heater and another extension cord. This extension cord can have some kind of a light fixture attached at the end of it and it can be positioned in such a way, so that it's seen from the house, thereby, visually verifying the On or Off position of the remote unit. The remote unit would have to be attached between the splitter and the extension cord that goes to the house current. This unit has a max. 1000 watts rating, so this kind of setup should work.
