Very convenient and easy to use
The portable water filter was perfect for my hiking trip. Small and lightweight enough to easily carry around. While on my hike I was able to get the water directly out of the river to drink or store in the water bag. I can even filter water out of a bottle due to the extension tube that can connect to a water bottle. The tube is a water filter that removes contaminates that can affect the water such as rocks, leaves, chlorine and mercury just to name a few. The removal rate is up to 99.99999. What a life saver it turned out to be on my hike.

4 trips & it works fine
I've taken it on 4 trips & it works fine. Filling it is a little tricky. The flow is usually a fast drip, not a steady stream. I fill it, hang it, and leave it to do other tasks. I found it's important to clear the water line of bubbles to get a good flow. Also, you will need to clean it well and dry it after each trip.

Good filter, capacity less than advertised
Bought this for a three day backpacking trip, I had used squeeze filters previously which were annoying to use to filter water for a group. This gravity filter worked well, had a very respectable flow rate compared to a friend's name brand filter, and I liked the catch tray around the filter input to prevent unfiltered water from running down the hose into my filtered water. My only gripe is that the capacity is not actually 3L of unfiltered water, even with the bag topped completely off, it only holds about 2.25-2.4 L. This shouldn't be disqualifying however, as the flow rate was great, but it was a bit annoying to have to fill a "3L" filter bag twice to fill a 3L hydration bladder

Product works.
My son's and I just spent 3 days on the Colorado River, in Glen Canyon. We did the back hall services up to the dam and kayaked down through horse shoe bend. We did 14 miles and camped two nights. This little filter provided us all the water we used over the three days we were there, we filter at least 8 different bag fills to meet our needs. It worked great. Will use again and probable purchase a second one for back up for long back woods trips.

UPDATE!!!...GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE RESPONSE...PROBLEMS PERSIST
ORIGINAL REWIEW INCLUDED BELOW...UPDATE 6-8-22 What to expect from a cost effective gravity water filter?...This is a different name brand which appears to be manufactured for/or imported by a company called "Membraine Solutions" which also markets products under that name. Having previously purchased one of the "Membrane Solutions" products in the past (which had quality issues), I decided to try another name brand...on the surface, both appear to be of the same quality with a few design/feature differences. My original SimPure filter came broken in the package, and to their credit, was replaced willingly and in a timely fashion by the seller. No big hassle. So, ready to test, right? Not entirely, this time I encountered a "small leak" at the bottom of the "raw water" bag. Not a big deal, patched and resolved with a water toy patch kit. Moving on.... using a irrigation canal water source, I proceed to test this filter, and yes, open water does contain "debris" which will clog the filter in short order, but there is a "flushing" method to "clear" some of the blockage which significantly reduces flow through the filter. With this in mind, I will set up this filter "first thing" when arriving at a camp site to allow an hour or so for it to filter it's capacity. I have not utilized this filter as a "straw" because I am very cautious about water safty, and utilize water "purification" tablets after filtering to lessen the risk of contamination or water born illness. So, in the end, my conclusion is that this filer will work for my inteded use (with precautions) and it comes down to a balanced choice of function, price, weight, and serviceable life compared to other filter options. Consider your personal needs, and be willing to try a few different systems (pumps, straws, advanced filters, gravity flow) to find the solution that works for you. Happy Camping :-) And always be prepared! ORIGINAL REVIEW>>> Well, if you're trying to find a reasonably priced, useable gravity filter for camping / hiking, you may wish to look elsewhere ... wish I could say that I had a chance to try this one, but it came broken in the box ... filler bag intact, but straw filter cracked at cap attachment point, so it just leaked all over the place ... I understand there are mistakes in manufacturing, but they should never make it to the consumer.

Horrible chemical taste
Bought this for family camping trip last christmas... flow was good, size was good. and would have kept our supply topped up if we didnt have the below issue. For a bit of context, ive only drank self filtered water for the last 20 years. The water that came out of this filter smelt and tasted like it had been flooded with plastic and chemicals. we literally couldnt drink the water out of it from the first time to the 10th time we tried.... putting 5-10 litres through each time... then unfortunately having to throw the water out.
