Kutsuwa STAD T'GAAL Angle Adjustable Pencil Sharpener (RS017LB),Light Blue

This pencil sharpener is one of the best hand sharpeners I've ever used! It's able to sharpen both my graphite and colored pencils to a very fine point without any breakage to the lead core and leaves the wood collar very smooth. The sharpener has five different dial settings to choose from a short point (#1) to a long point (#5). The back of the packaging has a diagram of the different point sizes for each setting: #1 and #2 are recommended for colored pencils, #3 and #4 for 6B to 2B graphite pencils, #5 for HB pencils. However, most solid lead pencil types can be used on any setting depending on preference (at least in my experience). Another thing I love about this sharpener is that I get the most out of my pencils with each sharpening, as indicated by the paper-thin pencil shavings that come out. This is especially good for saving expensive pencils. To get the best results, I recommend holding the pencil firmly in your non-dominant hand and turning the sharpener with your dominant hand. I also like that the sharpener hole can be closed to prevent shavings from falling out when I carry the sharpener with me. One criticism I have is that the little slide-out back door to empty the shavings isn't transparent so I can't tell if the sharpener is full unless I open it. Other than that, this sharpener is great!

I bought one of these about 7 years ago. I loved it. It became my favorite sharpener. It worked faster, and far better than any I'd ever tried before. As you can see from the picture, I used it so much that all of the markings were worn away. But even at seven years old, the blade was barely worn. I only had to replace it because the back became a little loose and was dropping pencil shavings and dust. When I got the new one, I was amazed at how sharp it was, but that I had barely noticed the dulling in the old one was telling. It was that good. I mean, it lasted me 7 good years (and thats even with my cat knocking it on the floor multiple times.) It has 5 different settings for different widths of your pencil tip. My preference is #1 but trying the other 4 settings is fun too. I am fully confident that this new one can also last me seven years. I love these sharpeners.

Nice pencil sharpener with 5 settings from “1” (short point) to “5” (long point). This photo shows my results from 1 to 5 (left to right) using different pencils (btw, Arteza and Ticonderoga are sooooo close when it comes to quality and softness/hardness - Arteza has a softer, more purple, and less secure eraser). Anyhow, this sharpener which looks like it’s from Japan and what you might see at a “Daiso” store, is great! Blade still sharp but only 10 uses or so. Longest point probably not the longest (compared to the KUM). There is a slight tendency for the point to extend out a bit past the vertex of the angle. Works well and doesn’t break the graphite. A bit flimsy but what do you expect for $7. i have the German “M&R” grenade type manual sharpener (looks like a thimble) and that is a beast (if you can call a tiny sharpener that haha). But this one is great and the adjustable tip is a neat feature.

This is a fun sharpener. At about the four setting I can get a pretty standard point like I would from almost any pocket sharpener, but the lower settings shorten your lead point so you can get the short points you see on golf pencils and a lot of stock sharpening like Ticonderogas. You won't get a long point out of this, but short to medium is covered with quite a bit of nuance. Nuance may be an operative word, it isn't a ton of variety. You get short and medium points. That's mostly what I use, so I'm satisfied, but if you're looking for long points look at the Kum. I was looking for this to do the shorter points and it does those well. It's been tough for me to find a sharpener that will do those. There's a learning curve, as the instructions were in Japanese and not much help to me. I had to do some experimenting to get the exact length of point I was looking for. Once you dial that in, however, it cuts a sharp point and does what it says it will do. There is a stop that closes the opening for the pencil. Mine doesn't really do that anymore after a few weeks of moderate use. Shavings could ostensibly come back out the opening, though that's not been an issue for me. The shavings go into the housing and the blade separates that chamber from the opening. To my thinking its a superfluous function, so I am not sad at the loss. Still, in good conscience it should be disclosed that that function doesn't, well, function. Over all it's a solid sharpener. It doesn't feel flimsy even though it's fairly thin plastic. I have had this in my bag for the last month or so and its not let me down. The door to open the shaving reservoir is still strongly mating. I've had no shavings spills and it keeps putting a point on. I detracted a star for the loss of the closing door for the pencil hole. I don't mind, but it still seems fair.

I am trying to return to my passion of drawing, but at the same time, learn new things. I never used to color in my drawings, this time around I am going to try. I started cheap, Crayola colored pencils. I'm loving the effects that I can get with them. So now, I am coloring all my drawings. That is where this sharpener comes in to play. I never liked the tips that standard sharpeners make. They are just too long for my taste. I like them short and sharp. To me, easier to work with. I've now since upgraded my colored pencils and I wanna take good care of them and also make them really mine. I found this sharpener on Google reviews and checked to see if Amazon carries it. Sure enough they do and what a great price. The day I got it, I sharpened like 10 of my colored pencils. I have it set to #3. They all came out perfect. No kinks and the sharpening motion was very smooth. I highly recommend this sharpener to those who want specific tips for their needs.

I have only had this sharpener for 24 hours, but I am in love and am ordering a couple more to have on hand. The adjustable tip function is brilliant for colored pencils allowing for a different angle based on the hardness of pencil core, the function of the pencil, and the pressure used to lay down color. I do wish there was a choice of barrel size as I have a great assortment of colored pencils-some are thinner, some are thicker. My Derwent Coloursoft barrel is juuuust barely fitting, but can be used with this sharpener--anything bigger won't fit. I'd be happy to purchase a second size if there is one. This product is well worth the money as I can now easily get my pencils into the tiniest of details without "scribble sharpening" the tip or using a blade or sandpaper to shave down the point. The packaging is entirely in Chinese? but this item is pretty self-explanatory: Dial the number up or down for your point angle AND it has a "Close" function which covers the hole and prevents shavings from filling up your pocket! I don't know how to speak of sturdiness as I have only had this for one day so I'm leaving that unanswered for now.

This is a GREAT sharpener !and such an amazing price! I saw a review on this and had to order! when i first got this I have to admit in seemed not ver well made and thought "oh thats why its so cheep!" ! But once I used it! Looks aren't everything!, not that it looks bad but just didn't look and feel well made! But this little sharpener is amazing! Not only does it sharpen well but it also will extend the life of your pencils! and at some of the prices (Investments) of your pencils HOW CAN you not want this product? :0) ! But just the turn of the dial you can choose to just sharpen the lead, ( saving on the length of the pencil) to sharpening the whole pencil! and the sharpest point ever! and which such ease! just a few turns its very sharp and ready! comes in a variety of , package has a simple little guide showing the different dial settings! have gien this as presents and they also love it! will deffinetly check out other Kutsuwa products!

This pencil sharpener became the talk of social media for a while, and just about everyone tried it...myself included. And let me just say that if you invested a lot of money in Prismacolor pencils during their persnickety run and someone says THIS sharpener will sooth away your woos and you will be able to sharpen them, you'd try it too! And I think it did help with the Prismas (for a while...). Using a low setting/around a two helps you get a point on your Prismas without cracking the barrels or the leads (I will give it that...and that is a lot). That said, if you want a traditional point on any other pencil you can skip this sharpener. I paid $3.50 for my first one as an Amazon add on, so really there was no reason to complain. But I have seen the price almost double and thought I should share the other side of this sharpener. It is pretty and fun and it has the dial... which does give you different shaped points and can save how much wood you shave and thus how much of the core is wasted to create a point. And when I first used it I liked it (on my Prismacolors). I had no complaints worth mentioning. Technically, the short points take away some of the traditional use of the side of the pencil for shading because at the lowest settings you only get the point and not the long sides that you may rely on for your preferred coloring techniques (coloring pencils). And sorry to say, at the higher settings it is just a sharpener (and not the best one out there). Most annoyingly, the blade dies very quickly in this sharpener. I don't use it daily and within a month I needed a new one! I have had some sharpeners last me years, so a few weeks of use seems wrong to me. Don't make the mistake of putting a pencil in at one level and then changing the dial, that creates a messy crooked monster point and means you need to sharpen even more. And if your pencil is a little bit on the wide side, this sharpener will scratch the barrels. Do not put a Derwent pencil in there! Ugh! Part of the pleasure of colored pencils is their finish (at least for me), so boo to that side effect! Oh, and the first time you open the back to empty the shavings is the last time the back closes well...it always feels shaky after that (this happened on both my versions of this sharpen). I just thought someone should log the concerns because I know if I reviewed this sharpener the first time I used it, I too would have given it five stars. And most people just do not come back and update their reviews. But being on my second unit for 2018, I can now attest to the short lifespan and the other technical blips. I am in no way bashing the sharpener. It can be the right tool at the right price and I would buy another just for my Prismas. For my other pencils other sharpeners in my arsenal work better (specifically, at the same general price-point, the simple Kum steel blade and M&R round).
