They couldn’t get better, they did.
I’ve had one since 2010 and I needed an upgrade, I wanted to keep the same as the original was so good. Great item, hopefully for another 15 yrs.

Not worth the money
As a reservist it’s not worth the money with more affordable versions available. It’s the second one I ordered (first one the strap stitching came apart after less than 6 months and was only used day to day) Purchased this one and within 2 months the stitching had come apart from the zip. Bags were only used as day to day use so not even weighed down heavy. Tried to put a report through less than a year of owning but heard nothing back. The bag itself I adore, just disappointed

Not what they used to be
Full screw gen in training was that they’d last a minimum of 10 years [insert afgan dit from a bloke who never left bastion] in actual fact the thing looked battered after 6 months. Granted it’s had a short but hard life. I expected better. Actual robustness doesn’t match up with what i’d heard. Also you can’t take the plastic bit out the back so you can’t roll it up to double fist it into your bergen so it had to go.

Well manufactured and designed pack
I could write an essay on what I like about this pack and how good it is. Simply put, it's just a well put together pack from buckles and zips to stitching and design. Some people complain about comfort levels as it's a "longer" pack. I'm 6'7 (200cm) so it sat nicely on my shoulders and along the back. Haven't had comfort issues yet. Waist belt is not designed to be load baring on hips (it could be, depending on your body size but if you manage to get it on your hips its's not padded). Rather I feel it's designed for strapping pack to your body during activity (eg. climbing, cycling). Water bladder is modular and high quality which is what CamelBak is know for. The pack looks much better in person then over pictures and my concerns that the front pocket (organizer section) was too skinny and would not fit much gear was misplaced. It's a good size pocket for it's intended purpose. Webbing / molle is very good, I'm now a fan of lasercut as it holds gear closer and more securely to the pack (but it's a little fiddly to install accessories). Now! Couple small things: 1: Side molle is only 4 row high. This is NOT high enough for the (only) CamelBak molle accessory, the Camelbak - Max Gear Bottle Pouch Coyote (1754201000), Tan. This means the bottle pouch kind of flops outwards and around when attached and not only looks aesthetically awkward it also is kind of floppy on the edge of the pack during hikes etc. Mounting the bottle pouch properly on the front of the pack works really really well and it's wide enough to take two of them. RECOMMED using side molle for smaller pouches only (eg. small Med Kit.) Designers should have made the side molle ~7 rows high for better accessory support. 2: NOTE this is not with the bag itself, but with the fact the CamelBak does not have a range of accessory pouches which is a little frustrating because you have to use other brands and their materials and colors don't quite match. This is a really an opportunity for CamelBak to provide a "solution" with several more accessories. If anyone from CamelBak reads this... happy to field test these for you if you make some :) 3. Waist belt doesn't seem to stow inside the pack. I couldn't figure out how to push it into the very narrow cavity and cavity is too small to fit the buckle. It's basically it's just a Velcro roll up solution. So you always have the rolled up hip belt dangling at the side about an 1 inch from the pack. Pack "features" suggest it would be stowable aka hidden as its commonly done. Not a biggy, but would have been nice to stow it entirely hidden. I've not been able to source this version (Tan) in Australia (limited suppliers, limited stock), so the freight took a little while from the US. Overall very happy with this product.

Great pack - but consider a BFM instead
Prior to purchasing this pack, I owned a HAWG and a Sparta, but I wanted something bigger for weekend-length hikes. I felt that the BFM would be just too big for my taste, so I tried out the Motherlode. The five stars are for the quality of the product itself - Camelbak makes amazing packs! But - if I were to make a recommendation to buyers, I would consider a BFM instead - depending on your needs. The Motherlode is basically a stripped down BFM - it's missing the side water bottle pockets of the BFM, does not have the hefty waist belt and does not have the futura harness. The motherlode is a great pack for people who want to customize their side pack MOLLE (and of course the ability to totally remove side pockets), and don't care about the futura harness or the hefty waist belt. The BFM will be a better choice for people who are using this for hiking and that sort of thing. The harness system on the BFM is the best i've seen on a military pack - it is fully customizable to your torso size and the waist belt holds your pack weight a lot better than the Motherlode will. And the water bottle pockets on the side mean I don't need to purchase extra MOLLE packs for the side , which I'd be putting water bottle holders on anyways. When all was said and done, I ended up returning the Motherlode for the BFM, but I think both packs are great and it really depends on your needs.

Got mistaken for Military
Almost got a discount from a foreign amusement park lol. Build quality great, plenty of room, and ample adjustments.
