Q: What is the difference between this and a danforth for 30 or 40 dollars?

Thank you for contacting Billet4x4. A Danfort Anchor is designed to hold a floating boat stationary against a current and/or wind. The boat is allowed to move in the current and/or wind to a position that results in the lowest resistance based on shape of hull and boat above waterline. Given that the anchor in this discussion is for a craft that is trailerable, the higher end size would be a 24 foot boat weighing 4000 pounds. The boat's weight is supported by bouyancy and the force against the anchor is the current and wind velocities on the surface area battered by these forces. The total strain is probably less than 500 pounds of force, but certainly less than 1000 pounds. The anchor structure is generally aluminum (for weight) and the pin that allows the anchor to seat itself into sand or a rock crevice is probably not rated for over 2000 pounds, if that. Now the use of a Danforth anchor to winch your vehicle when stuck, it would probably be the weak point in the winching line up. If you need 3000-4000 pounds of force to free your truck, the anchor metallurgy might bend and release from a holding point, or worse the pin could shear. I do not know the rated strength of the anchor, but the concept of using a boat anchor to winch out a stuck vehicle does not sound like a safe practice to me.
