Bought a couple of these and they work great
I do not have the original master key for my 2008 1098 and bought 2 of these to clone my existing working key. They worked great. Note, there's a few things people should know about how these keys work because it can be confusing...There's a difference between "cloning" a key and programming a new key using the original master key. If you have your original master key and you want an additional key then you buy an OEM replacement key and then using the master key you program the new OEM key using the procedure as described by Ducati. When you do this you are effectively registering the new key with the Dash & ECU. In other words, the OEM key already has a read only chip with a unique code inside. Using the master key and following the Ducati procedure what you are doing is instructing the Dash and ECU to also accept the new key. You don't want this key if this is what you are doing. This key is used to clone an existing key that already works with your bike. When you clone a key you read the code from your working key, then write that exact code to this key using a "key programmer" device. This key can be read and written. In other words when you code this key you are making an exact copy of the working key and your bike can't tell the difference between the 2, it thinks they are the same thing. Some lock smiths have a key programming device that can read the code from the working key and write that code to this key. You can do this yourself by purchasing a key programmer which you can also get on Amazon.

Transponder Chip Incorrect
Had this key cut and programmed at my local locksmith, the transponder chip is for a Ford car/truck, not a Ducati. If you're looking for a unprogrammed key that will only turn in the lock cylinder, this works fine, but it won't start the bike unless you have the correct transponder chip installed in the key.

It Works!
I took this key with my black key to my local locksmith. He cloned it to my key and cut the new one no problem (06 S2R).

A great option if you know how to program it!
I bought these for a 2013 Ducati 848 Evo build I was doing- No the ECU is not tied to the dash or the ignition. The dash has 2 Immo codes stored in its 24 C chip which you can interface through equipment that is available on amazon for cheap, once connected, save the info through a hex reader, the Immo code will be saved in 3 identical lines- the first 2 lines at the top are the code- 5 digits. you can have a blank key and still program the key through the antenna, just like the old red keys it didn't have transponder chip either. You can program these keys through the bike or you can use a cloning tool like a ZedBull.

DUCATI can't program this key - JUNK
My local extremely reputable, experienced Ducati dealership could not program this key for my 2008 Hypermotard. Either the transponder chip was incompatible or non-existent but the key was junk. i ended up throwing it out and ordering an OEM key. AND in the process of trying to program it, it disabled the transponder in my WORKING key (ducati..) so the bike is dead for 2 weeks while I wait for the OEM key to come in.
