Is this veneer smooth to the touch? Or could you feel/see grain through paint? Painted some veneer I previously bought and could see the grain after.

I think you would definitely see the grain though this. Couldn’t sand it smooth no matter what I’ve tried so far

the 10mil veneer are about 3 sheets of paper thick

Anyone tried staining the veneer to a dark brown color?

It will take any stain. I tried several to match an existing piece. It does not show very much grain though and I needed the grain so ended up getting an oak veneer. Good Luck!
