Excellent product. Head and shoulders above your typical hardware store consumer fire extinguisher. Its big and heavy but if there's a fire I want something loaded with plenty of what I need to put the fire out.UPDATE: I turned my back yard lights on and a bird's nest in one of the lighting sconces heated up and burst into flames. Luckily I had walked outside and was wondering why I smelled smoke, and saw the sconce go from smoking to flaming. Ran inside and grabbed this extinguisher. The safety ring snapped off with firm but not significant resistance, and just a blip of pressure went a long way to extinguishing the fire. A couple more and it was out. Another and the embers were no longer glowing. A few more (after all the house was *on fire*) and I was finally satisfied that I could go back to bed safely. Next morning I saw that the extinguisher - which I over-used - was down to the 9 o'clock mark. Plenty left. I sent it off to be recharged. Boy oh boy was I ever glad I sprang the extra money (it still wasn't a lot) on a serious fire extinguisher so I had zero worries about capacity or effectiveness. TOTALLY WORTH THE MONEY WHEN IT SAVES YOUR HOUSE.

AMEREX makes the absolute best fire extinguishers on the market bar none. While working as a Police - Fire Specialist for many years, I used them time and time again from vehicle fires to a gasoline pump island with a vehicle and an involved pump following a multi-car accident with fire. I used 4 - 10 pound ABC class, 3 - 5 pound ABC class along with 1 BC class Purple K to extinguish the fire prior to the arrival of the Fire Department. I staked my life on them then, and would do so again today without hesitation. I can't say that about some of the other brands on the market. They are tough as nails, refillable, and will last a lifetime.

I wanted a rechargeable and serviceable fire extinguisher for my home. Did my research and chose this Amerex extinguisher. It is called a 10lb extinguisher but weighs about 18lbs and is heavy. Keep this in mind if considering for home use. Also consider placement of this extinguisher sheetrock vs. stud. You cannot attach the mounting bracket to sheetrock due to the weight of the extinguisher. The manufacturer recommends mounting a wood board at least ¾” thick that will extend 2” from all four sides of the extinguisher. Then you can attach the extinguisher bracket to the board. Otherwise you could end up with a good size hole in the wall.

The packaging was smashed. The steel extinguisher was in good shape and still pressurized. The the aluminum handle was bent and broken off. There are two pins: the regaining pin and the hinge pin. The retaining pin was badly bent. The hinge pin looked like an aluminum pop rivet about 1" long. The handle was all bent up. Fortunately, I was able to repair everything with a steel table as a plate and a ball peen hamer to straighten the handle and retaining pin. I replaced the hinge bin with an appropriately sized nail, cut it to length and bent the end to stop it from falling out. All is well, but they need to improve their packing. It weighs 10 lbs and I'm sure it gets thrown around pretty well in transport.

Arrive next day to a rural location in good condition. Packaged well. Highly recommended.

The shipping box was obliterated and honestly I was surprised they still delivered it like that. But, the manufacturers boxes covering the extinguishers protected them nicely. Worked out. The exterior box really should be secured with strapping tape or the equivalent. These things are obviously heavy and require additional securing to ensure they remain in the box.

Shipped in a box with zero support on each end. Unit moves up and down 3 or 4 inches to smash each end on shipping journey. Arrives with aluminum handle so badly bent, I doubt anyone will refill it. Also fully discharged. Their rating has nothing to do with this product--it would be a negative number. Just like many others, I dropped 70+ dollars on a piece of junk that has zero return value. If not you get spend 30 more dollars plus your time to recharge . Better success odds at a casino.
