Sizing chart is definitely off, but worth the price
I've been on a Goldilocks worthy quest to find a thimble that's just right, and this one comes close.I also had an issue with sizing, but in the reverse direction from a lot of reviewers. I used both the method listed with this thimble and the method for this brand's more expensive version to measure my finger, and landed at about 45 mm. Following the recommendation in the instructions, I ordered the large. It's is just a touch too big. As I use it I can feel it rotate a little on some stitches, and it's very possible for enough of my fingertip to slip forward that I'd be in real danger of the needle catching under my fingernail instead of the thimble lip (and my fingernails are not long by any means). That said, I'm an instant fan of this thimble and its design. It's solid and not cheap feeling, thick enough that I don't worry about wearing a hole in it over time, and the dimples are deep enough that I don't feel like the needle will pop out as I rotate it or apply pressure to push it through my quilt. I've ordered the medium and I'm pretty confident that it'll be exactly what I need. I'm not particularly concerned about the colored coating chipping off, as I'm not too fond of either the yellow or green, and don't think it's an indication of the thimble itself deteriorating over time.I've wondered for ages whether or not the Roxanne thimbles were worth the hefty price tag, but never had the disposable income to risk it. After seeing this one, if I ever feel rich enough I'd definitely be willing to order one that's more custom fitted. These more generically-sized versions are at a good price point for such a solid thimble, and while I don't expect a limited 5 size selection to fit all shapes and sizes of fingers, the fact that so many people are having fitting issues indicates that their chart must be off.Still a solid 4 stars out of 5, if you find the one that fits you.

Index Finger Thimble for me
I have small-ish hands and this thimble is great for my index finger. The xl fits my thumb. This thimble keeps my fingertip from sweating, and therefore this is by far the best thimble option for me.The thimbles do seem to run small. My daughter has large hands and the xl fits her index finger. My husband can't get the xl to go on his fingers. The Colonial Needle website has a link to email them. Please see pics for the size chart they sent me, but please email them directly for more help. They are super nice, and it makes all the difference in the world.

One of my preferred thimbles.
This is my second one of these. I’ve used a lot of thimbles and prefer the type that don’t cover the top of my finger. These are well designed but with continued use the color finish does get scraped off by the needle.A little on the pricy side though.

Once you find the fit....
Finding the correct size without trying it on is tricky, however once you find the correct size, it is like a dream. Lightweight. Only issue is that the colored coating comes off after only a little use. Makes me wonder if it's just the paint or if the thimble itself will wear away.

I was excited to get this and use it but the sizing is completely out of line from the chart that is provided. My finger measured as a Medium, I saw the reviews that said it ran small so I ordered a large. Not. Even. Close. It's a nice heavy thimble for people with very, very small fingers.

Nice Thimble
Tried it and it works great but for those just thinking about buying it this thimble is very small. I first bought the medium and couldn't even get it on my finger so tried the large still to small but works ok on my pointer finger I need x- large and for a example on how small they are made I wear a size 41/2 ring on my ring finger so my fingers aren't huge.

Heavy clunky and eventually over priced.
I was excited to see a beautiful green thimble arrive that would stay on my finger. It was a bit snug and took a bit to adjust to. The needle divots are too shallow, and then within a week, the paint wore off. once the paint wore off the metal beneath turned my finger black. Quite disappointed that for such an expensive thimble the materials would be so cheap.

Not metal
My tumble arrived shattered, which means it's not metal. It was returned, because a hard, brittle plastic thimble just isn't going to last. The description doesn't say that it's not metal.
