20th Century Masters-The Best of Roy Buchanan
Roy brings out the spiritual in his blues. It was and is gospel. His guitar is guided by his soulful heart. Songs like the "messiah will come again" let's the listener be witnessed to jesus's glory through blues because as Roy puts it, he went away. Also Roy can raise hell with his "I'm evil" and spit fire when his guitar stirs up the fever with "hey joe". One fine jam. The album has much to write about and more to listen to from a temporary lost soul. The saddest song to listen to but beautiful just the same is "five string blues". His few short lines are "Jesus this is my final plea,i'm still beg-gin you, don't let the devil get the best of me". sad words when we know Roy Buchanan is no more. i believe Jesus sheltered him from the storm... play on dear brother.......

It has all of Roys best songs
A lot of people may not know of Roy but true guitar aficionados will know of his work.He was asked to replace Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones when he died and preferred to play his own bluesy type of music. His 1954 fender telecaster combined with the fender twin reverb and the way he uses the volume control knob on his guitar to create the harmonics that almost sound like a violin and he uses every fret on the guitar going all the way down to the bridge and the speed of his riffs are amazing.A must buy for all guitar players to listen to and check him out on youtube and you will see what I mean about the control he has over his guitar !!!! Also check him out on wikipedia to find out more of his life before he died its fascinating.

A Great Collection from a Great Artist.
I wish I could give this more stars. This is an incredible collection from an incredible artist. There is such great guitar playing on this CD. Roy Buchanan's version of 'Hey Joe' is just amazing. 'The Messiah' is a fantastic and haunting. You can really hear how much Roy influenced Jeff Beck. The band is very tight and there's some great keyboard playing as well. If you love great guitar, great Blues and great instrumentals BUY THIS!!!

one of the best guitar players ever
How have I made it to my 50s without knowing about Roy Buchanan? My brother in law played this for me last month and I bought it the next day. One of the best guitarists I have ever heard. Listen to this (youtube or elsewhere) and I bet you will buy it as I did. My wife loves it too.

Not into guitar solos
Even though I am not into guitar solos, I thoroughly enjoyed this album by Roy Buchanan. From Patsy Cline to Wilson Pickett, he has some covers that are fantastic. From Duane Eddy to Jimi Hendrix, Buchanan covers the range. Also, this is an album for when you want to kick back and relax. Enjoy.

Worth the money
I had a vinyl copy of "Dancing on the Edge" many years ago and I was pleased to find a compilation of Roy Buchanan's earlier work. The lead guitar playing showcased here is excellent but the rhythm sections seemed unwilling to venture beyond anything more adventurous than a blues shuffle. Interesting range of tracks, although I wonder why Buchanan covered "Hey Joe" in the first place and why it was included on this CD. It's a song that is associated with Hendrix far too strongly, although his version was a cover too. Some songs become so strongly associated with a particular artist that covers don't really cut it. If you're looking for a taster of Buchanan's guitar playing then this is a good place to start, although another reviewer has pointed out that a more comprehensive compilation exists. When someone is touted as "the guitarist's guitarist" or words to that effect it's often a polite way of saying that the music is self-indulgent and hard to listen to. With Roy Buchanan's guitar playing that is definitely not the case.
