Great budget-friendly lens for beginners
It’s obviously not an official Canon lens or a high-end professional prime, but honestly it does an amazing job for the price. I sent it to my cousin in Cuba to use with her Canon T7i, and the difference compared to the kit lens was huge. The wide aperture helps a lot with background blur, indoor photography, and achieving a more professional look without spending a fortune. Autofocus isn’t the fastest and the build quality is simple, but for someone starting out in photography, it absolutely gets the job done. I’d definitely recommend it for portraits, casual sessions, and for learning how to work with prime lenses before investing in more expensive gear. Excellent value for the money.

Surprisingly good!
It’s actually a really good lens for the price! The focus is fast and the images are sharp

Fantastic little lens.
For the money, this is a fantastic little lens. I use mostly fast primes but I'm not quite at the financial level where I can shell out for the top of the line glass. This little 35mm f2 is a fantastic piece of glass for the money. I've been using it now for a couple of months... I've got around 2000 shutter actuations on it. What you'll find is a lens that is very reminiscent of the good ol' nifty fifty for around the same price. Build quality is a little better than the nifty fifty, it has a metal mount instead of a plastic one... but the rest of the body feels just as fragile as the nifty fifty. That said.. after 2000 shutter actuations on it, it hasn't fallen apart yet... so I figure just because it feels cheap doesn't mean it is garbage build wise. It sounds a bit like an anti-aircraft gun sighting in on a target when it focuses... very loud next to your face. It doesn't do a lot of hunting to nail down the autofocus, but it is fairly slow to achieve focus. Mine had a bit of a back focus issue when I got it, but that isn't super unusual and you can take care of that in camera with AF Microadjustment and get it up to speed. Color rendering is great... I've used this lens on both a T3i and a Sony A7rII, I haven't noticed a whole lot of color fringing in my photos like some reviews mentioned, but when I have seen some it's been in very high contrast shots and was fairly easy to take care of in post. It is actually pretty sharp wide open and does obvioiusly get sharper as you stop down. The bokeh it produces is actually pretty pleasant, no complaints. I don't think it is sharp enough wide open for portraits if I plan to print them, but I feel no hesitation shooting portraits with it wide open if the photos are going to stay digital... it is plenty sharp at f2 for instagram/facebook/flickr/digital photo frames etc. My biggest beef with the lens, hands down, and the reason why I give this lens 4 stars out of 5... is the lack of dedicated lens hood attachment. This is a 35mm lens... don't make me thread a lens hood onto the barrel... I'm obviously going to want to take this lens outside...

Works well, from an old camera vet. Not crazy amazing, but pretty damn good for the price.
Color me impressed. The other reviews aren't lying. This isn't a quiet lets, it's not a wonderful lens, but it's a good lens. I've done photography as a professional for over 12 years now and owned several canon lenses in this range including both 35 1.4L's, and the old 35 f2 Canon. I used this lens paired with an older 5d Mark III for a wedding a few weeks ago, and did a lot of the getting ready photos with it. The bride absolutely loved the image quality that came out of it from the photos she selected, and it worked really well. No it wasn't super fast like an L series lens, and yes it's a little noisy, but it's perfectly usable and gives great results. For anyone looking for a slightly wider 50mm, I can vouch for the quality from this lens. I think it will be perfect as a walk around PJ type lens for my older 5d Mark III.

Doesn't work with Rebel 2000, camera support is unclear
My review based on using it solely with a Canon 5D Mark IV: For the price, this lens is not terrible. Picture quality is very sharp and is on par with Canon EF lenses. But the build quality is not, however. The lens cap pops off very easily, sometimes just from placing it in my camera bag. There's lots of play in the housing of the lens. The plastics are cheap. I haven't used it much for these reasons, so I can't really speak to how well it holds up to heavy use. My guess is not very well. After trying it with a Canon EOS Rebel 2000: This lens simply does not work. My Canon EF lenses all seem to work just fine with this camera. This one seats fine, the VF and AF work fine, no issue setting the f-stop. But I click the shutter, and it stays open and the camera display says the battery is dead. I'm not even halfway through my first roll on these batteries, so there's no way they're actually dead. I open the battery compartment and close it, the camera comes back to life with full batteries, and the shutter closes. I googled the issue and other Rebel 2000 users have experienced the same thing. Conclusion: A good value lens if it works with your camera, but it may not. Consult Yongnuo's website before you buy to see if your camera is supported. As it turns out, neither of my cameras is! But it does work with my DSLR. Its failure to support an EF film camera means it's not a true EF lens.

Stay away from this lens if you have APS-C + other problems
First of all, this lens does not communicate well with a camera body. Sometimes the camera recognizes the lens, sometimes not. I only found this problem when I put files into a computer and realize lens information on EXIF is empty. Can't say I am confident it would not somehow damage the body in a long term useage. I thought it may have been EF to RF adapters, but even with different adapters the lens has same intermittent problem. Also, occasionally an image may has strong orange hue. It seems it is one of the quirks the lens has. I heard this lens does not like APS-C, but it was a bit worse than I anticipated. At large aperture, the picture is quite blurry even at the center. Decreasing aperture to f/4+ does improve the image, but then there is really no point of using this lens against darker ones. I heard on full-frame bodies, the quality is semi-acceptable, but for most people who would buy this lens probably do not own full-frame bodies in the first place. AF is not that accurate thus manual focus is recommended. But... the ring is extremely loose and does not have enough moving radius to make a comfortable adjustments. Based on my personal impressions, this lens unfortunately does not make sharper images than my kit zoom lens (RF-S 18-45mm, EF-S 18-135mm) on my Canon R10. Yes, it is supposedly a prime lens but it does not have the performance of typical prime lenses. If I ignore the communication issue, the lens is technically usable. And it is cheap. But.... at the same time, it is nearly pointless to buy this lens. It does not give sharper images than kit lens, and it is only good at lower aperture values which once again eliminates any differences with kit lens. Only saving grace would be making pics with bokeh and it is supposedly good with full-frame bodies. Still, I would keep this lens for fun and learning if it does not have the communication isssue.

One of the Best Bang for Buck Canon Lens
I have been using this lens for a few days now after purchasing it, and I think it is excellent. It is small/lightweight and the autofocus works well. The 2.0 aperture really pulls out the depth of field capture of my Canon Rebel SL3, and paired with a Neutral Density filter this lens is excellent. The video stabilization is solid, and the image quality is very good for the price of the lens. I will say that the retracting/extending plastic ring that pulls in and out of the lens while the autofocus goes feels very cheap, and is a slightly loose fit. It works 100% fine and it is the price you pay for an exceptional lens for just over 100$.

Great lens for receptions, portraits, night.
I got my canon rebel sl1 a couple of weeks ago and I wanted to buy my first prime lens. The review will start bad, but bear with me. This review is intended for beginners. If you're a new photographer like me, you will love this lens. The learning curve is beautiful. Make sure that you know how to use the camera in manual, because that is the only setting that works. I could not get this to work with Av "aperture priority", but I feel like moving from Av to M is not "that" hard. Before you get this lens in the mail, go outside with your current lens and make sure that you get the hang of Manual (M). Also, learn to use the MANUAL focus yourself because the autofocus of this lens is not that great. The depth of field is so shallow, that you get one person behind another, and it's impossible to focus both at the same time. Focusing is indeed so hard, be sure that you have a lot of memory and take several pictures. Be trigger happy, because most of your pictures will be out of focus when you go to the computer... trust me. The final result is beautiful, you will throw away the pictures that are out of focus, but the ones that remain will be really good. The pictures below are the ones I captured my first day with it. It's great for portrait photography they say, but it's also good for parties (day and night).

Sehr empfehlenswert

F2.0. Skarpt och ljuskänsligt. Endast autofokus motorn som låter en del.
