The Land Before Time [DVD]

Regardless that HD isn't really HD, I can understand since it's old and it really didn't deter me from the story I've loved so much. Some may debate over this and if you do care about that then don't buy it or just buy the SD.With that out, let's start with the overall movie. It's still pretty dark but that's what you get from a time of dinosaurs when it was pretty brutal. It's a wonderful journey where an unlikely group of young dinosaurs have to get back with their families. The animation is stunning, the voices are top notch, and the music I could listen for hours. I also love how they used colors to depict the mood and ambience of the settings. The backgrounds are so good, I remember them exactly as I've watched it the first time at daycare.Will your kids be upset with this game? Yes and no, depending on their age and how they are affected by jumpscares and one scene I'll mention later. When I was in daycare watching this, it did terrify me cause Sharptooth is pretty darn scary. The character design has red eyes which is a clear indicator that he's the antagonist in the film. He wants to eat to survive and since adults will put up a fight, he will of course go after the young. There's a reason that there hasn't been much younger Triceratop skeletons haven't been found: they've mainly been eaten. The only depiction of someone being bit is geniusly done via shadows only. It happens so quick, that even as a kid I wondered how on earth that character was wounded before it clicked.This movie definitely gave Disney a run for it's money and I'm a huge Disney fan of their older animations. I do love their recent films, but this is such a classic that I'm so happy that is here on Amazon. I didn't hesitate to watch this since this is the movie that got me into dinosaurs - which were big BIG (no pun intended) at the time thanks to this movie releasing.This will never get old since it sends such strong messages of friendship, not caring what race/species someone is, learn to forgive and own up to mistakes, and being together helps you solve problems quicker.Thank you to the geniuses behind this movie and thank you to my daycare for introducing me to this movie.

This is such a classic. I love the land before time series. But the first movie is just awesome.

Great movie for kiddos who love dinosaurs

My 5 children named each other over the years as a new one was introduced to the movie in toddler age. My oldest named herself Ducky ,because she has that upbeat happiness. A 16 months later She named her little sister Sara Three horn because of her unmatched stubbornness. When their brother was born 16 months after that, he became Littlefoot. 18 years later the 3 named their new baby sister Petrie. And one year later the 4 named their new little brother,and my last child Spike. He still loves to be called Spike and knows the nickname is filled with love. He asked me a couple of years ago if he was "late" like Spike. I told him no he was not late, he got there just in time, and made sure they were all together again. I gave his 19 year old self a hug and he hugged me back with all his strength. He's 22 now and we still watch the movie together. The first 3 are all gone -living their lives. His best friend Petrie is still here. She's a sophomore in college. Brenden will always be with me and I promised to stay here as long as I can and we'll walk together and one day we will find the great valley too and all be together again. My "Spike" is special just like Spike in the movie. It was strange how that worked, but made the movie our family favorite, just like it was written for us.It's a heart touching movie.

so this dvd is in pretty good condition, meaning the film was transferred to disc decently. i wouldn't call this dvd quality, but its just under dvd quality. in the beginning of the film it starts of a little grainy and blurry, but slightly, it than clears up pretty nicely once you see the dinosaurs. so dont get scared when the first 30 seconds or so are a lil off. it is a real old film and to my knowledge it wasn't digitally remastered. But i believe they used a really well kept film master, so in the end its a step up from our old VHS tapes of this movie. The sound comes in very nicely, there is english audio, spanish and french audio as well, theres also english for hard of hearing and french and spanish subtitles. I wish they had included the original theatrical trailer for this film but thats ok, the special features i haven't seen and really aren't the reason we are buying this classic film. i had this vhs tape back when i was 5, and am now 30 and just seeing little foot yawn just before going to sleep on his mothers back gave me such a nostalgic feeling and happiness. i'm glad i got to own this once again after all these years, decades even.so for those saying the video quality is horrible, please ignore them. yes, the film is old, but its been kept pretty well over the years, i am satisfied with the quality of the film. if anything its like a perfect vhs tape quality film.**UPDATE**i saw the entire film the other night, and i have to say the quality really held up. I assume they must of used a VHS tape master. It held up great, even on my 42" LED TV. there were no errors of any kind, video or audio. everything was great. Looking back at the film, it seems there may have been a couple of scenes that just didnt make it to the theatrical version. I have no proof of this, but there are a couple of scenes in the middle of the movie that point out that there was prolly an idea to make the scene longer but for whatever reason either took it out or it never came to pass. but it was still a great movie from beginning to end. i had forgotten diana ross sung the ending credits. the special features arent really all that for the adult buyer. they are lil kids games. one such feature shows how to navigate a remote controller for the youngin's out there. this is a great purchase, ignore those idiotic buyers that are hating on it for not being in widescreen. HELLO this movie was released WELL before widescreen was even popular and as such was made for 4:3 screens. the colors are good in this dvd.

Another classic cartoon, that I was happy to share the experience with my children. It was delivered without issues or damage.
