Lifting the Veil
In Why the World Doesn't End, Michael Meade elaborates the mythical themes of the weaving of the world and of apocalypsis to present a clear picture of the danger and opportunities available at this time in history. The Chinese character for crisis is composed of the characters for danger and opportunity - an appropriate metaphor for this powerful book.I have been working with Michael for more than twenty years. The way he sees the world, thinks about it and articulates his ideas is mythical, unique, accessible and mind-expanding. He uses ancient wisdom stories- sixteen in this volume- to begin discussions of topics vital for us today.Meade's writing follows the ideas of weaving and apocalypse, which literally means lifting of the veil. He weaves threads of living knowledge into a tapestry picturing our present dilemma of facing monumental change in the world. Rather than offer specific solutions, he teachers us to think in a mythological way, where we reside in the tension between seeming opposites and invite fresh ideas to appear.Etymologies of many words are also unveiled to give of a clue of their original meanings. This provides a fresh look at old ideas and can shift the reader's view from stale ways of thinking. I also detected in Michael's language, the words and ideas of poets that have influenced him. Story, dreams and poetry come from the same place, and all can reawaken a fresh way of envisioning the world.Michael Meade uses years of scholarship, street smarts, and his gift for refreshing us with myth in understandable and modern language. His book can push us from a literal perch from which we view the world into a magical, vital and exciting flight to see possibilities never imagined before.

Great Book
Perspective from a prophetic, architypal view. A better way to view these troubled times - as opposed to swinging into extreme camps.

excellent book on mythological perspectives about our current cultural evolution
excellent book on mythological perspectives about our current cultural evolution. Not a book of stories, more of ideas about how we have created stories to situate ourselves in time. But, as our world undergoes significant transformation and the old order of things is falling apart, our stories/mythological perspectives we have used to orient our culture are also failing. Mead offers ways to embrace the change by developing a deeper understanding of the underlying mythos of our culture and our individual self

Well, if
If you are not in tune with the times and wonder about endings and beginnings .. this book is great ... I am just wishing that there would be more stories and less commentaries about them. to much commentaries does not give freedom to my imagination

another lovely read
Just finished another of Michael Meade’s books and have thoroughly enjoyed it as I have his others. For me he creates a ground on which I can place my own experience of my life as well as my work as a therapist…
