What a view of China
Thank you Mr Obama for suggesting this (in one of his recent film lists). A good film with footage of places no tourist will ever see. Grim housing, and low level gangster life. The film has a sudden ending, more philosophical than a clear narrative arc. Never the less a good film.

Good film but drags on to much
largely this was very good and I definitely recommend it, however it would have been a four star rating but its just too long and you lose interest in the character after what feels like a long period of time if vuewing, well I did anyway - however generally its a very good film, beautifully shot and acted

A China that feels very close to the heart, even a Western one
This film is a journey into a portrayal of China that resonates beyond its enigmatic cultural stereotypes; a story about caring in adversity and about sacrifice that could have happened anywhere in the world. Quite tragic in many ways and yet profoundly redemptive.

Amazing portrait of characters.
Qiao is generous and brave, going what she feels is right, even for people tha don’t deserve it.

Not a movie to purchase
I threw away my copy. This film didn't hold my attention. Sort of needs to be played at 1.5X speed for the characters to even look naturally in motion. Waste of time.
