Sturdy and well made.
This was fairly easy to install. Taking the bumper off was very easy. A couple of suggestions to make it easier if you're installing yourself:1. Use blue painters tape or similar just above where the bumper meets the metal body panel on each side. When you goto place the bumper back on the car, there's a possibility that the ends of the bumper may scratch the clear coat. Remove the tape once the bumpers properly attached.2. When removing the eight 10mm x 1.25 nuts from the studs, spray them with penetrant (ie: pb blaster). Believe it or not, this was the most difficult part of the installation. Mine were pretty rusted. I used a cheater bar (handle from my jack) for extra leverage. Keep spraying the nuts with with penetrant and work them back and forth by loosening and tightening. You don't want to break those studs!!!! I used a tap to chase the nuts once they came off, which made installation easier. The nuts are torqued to 42lbs.3. The directions said to make a 4" x 4-1/2" cut in the bumper to accommodate the hitch. The 4-1/2" depth was too short on my install; I wasn't able to get the bumper attached on both sides of the car. I cut 5-1/4" depth and that got me the clearance to secure the bumper. The 4" width was good and didn't need to be widened.Don't usually write reviews. This hitch seems pretty well made. The welds appear strong and the entire piece is powder coated. Hopefully it'll last the life of the car. Installed on a 2012 outback 4 cylinder.

Incredibly easy to install and works like a charm!
Installed this on my 2013 Subaru Outback intending to use a LoLo 6 bike rack on it for shuttling. Works perfectly, incredibly easy to install but will take a smidge of time. Highly recommend!

Better than we expected
This is an awesome trailer hitch! So glad we got this one as opposed to the kind you attach below the car. It was pretty easy to install and we could’ve had it done in about an hour, but we had to shave down the styrofoam to fit behind the bumper panel so it took a little longer. It feels very sturdy, but we’ll have to see how much when we decide on our bike carrier how it holds up. Have already recommended this to our family that also has a Subaru.

Decent to install--looks nice
I bought this to install on my 2016 outback. When received it, I though "They forgot the mounting hardware?!? Nope--it uses existing bolts. I had low expectations on difficulty but it was the most difficult of the hitches I've installed--mostly because I had plastic trim clips and this required removal of many as the plastic "facia" uses a lot of these, and the hitch mounts behind the facia. Online video from common video repository does well at displaying the installation process. I'm happy with it... But it was more difficult than a one I've installed on a Sienna and Impreza. But still way less expensive than paying someone else. Installed when i felt like installing it--no appt needed, and I know it was done right! Only planning to use it to haul bikes at the moment, but it would do well to haul a pop up camper too--wouldn't go much more than that (limitations of car more than of hitch). Hope this helps. Shop around! Have fun!

Great product with a generally easy install.
I have a 2018 Subaru outback that did not come with a trailer hitch. I was going to go to U-Haul to have one installed but didn’t wanna spend the $450. I watched a YouTube video on doing it myself and found it was gonna be an easy process. After some quick research on Amazon, I found this product at a very reasonable price. It shipped in one day, and had almost everything I needed for the install. The only part I wish it came with was a template for cutting into the bottom side of the rear bumper. Everything else was a breeze to do. It’s an extremely strong hitch and does exactly what it’s supposed to do.

Best hitch for the money
Construction of this hitch appears very good. Good design for the Subaru Outback. Watch videos on trailer.com for tips and visual clues. Removing and reinstalling the mud flaps was the hardest part for me. The most nerve racking was the removal of the bumper cover and the trimming of it. Horizonglobal.com has clearer instructions than the printed ones received with hitch. I was able to watch videos and observed trim lines on the bumper cover that would make a cleaner install. I trimmed 1/8" LESS on each side of the 4" opening suggested and 1/8" LESS than the 4 1/2" deep cut. I think it came out great! I used all hand tools and a bunch of patience. Install time states 45min. It took me 45 minutes just to remove everything! Took about 1 1/2 hour to trim and reinstall. I think this is a far superior alternative to drilling holes in the frame of the vehicle as other hitches attach. The installation difficulty rating of 10/10 seems a bit over rated. The ones where you actually drill into your car are only a 6/10 and you could quite literally destroy the integrity your vehicle! This HAS to be easier than that!

Fits perfectly
We had the tow hitch bar professionally installed on our 2019 Subaru Outback with the wire kit! They did a great job, it fit onto the existing pre drilled holes on our bumper which had to be removed and replaced.

Good Quality Hitch
The hitch was fairly easy to install on a 2017 Outback.Hardest job was getting all the plastic push pinsout of the rear bumper cover. You just have to take your time.Hitch bolted on with no hassles. You need a long extension to reachthe nuts on the Bumper.

Solid piece of metal
Heavy piece of solid metal and strong looking welds. Installation was simple - just go to www.etrailer.com and search for this hitch, they have a video guide for installation. I wanted this type of hitch, because I didn't want to drill holes to my car that are required for most other hitches installation.I have a 2-bike carrier installed and it is great, I can even open rear door. Thanks to no-rattle hitch pin on the carrier (i.e. bolt) it is perfectly stable. The only thing - the bike carrier has 1.25 inch tongue, so I had to get a adapter. I searched a lot and didn't like all the extension adapters that add length, I just wanted a sleeve. In the end I ordered a spare from canadian Thule, part no. 8537489 that arrived quickly and does the job perfectly.
