Problem-solver!
The problem: how to paint a picture of our school mascot onto two wooden worm composting bins my son built. Free hand was not an option because he wanted it exact. Looked on line and someone suggested taking a big piece of paper, scribbling on the back with a soft lead pencil, then flipping it over and tracing over it, which would leave a faint impression on the surface to be painted. They described it as homemade transfer paper. Transfer paper? We'd never hear of it, but of course, after a quick search on Amazon, we found it. Well, it worked perfectly! He just took a blown up PDF of the mascot, taped it to the transfer paper, taped the transfer paper to the box, and traced over all the design with a regular pencil. It left a nice impression on the wood and he was able to paint right onto it. He also printed out some letters in large font off the computer and transferred and painted the school name the same way. This was much cleaner and easier that scribbling on the back of a paper in soft lead pencil. I highly recommend keeping a roll of this stuff around the house! I can think of many ways it could be useful for different DIY projects.

Transfer Paper Works Very Well for Tracing Patterns
I purchased the Saral Transfer Paper Roll in blue and have been using it as I trace sewing patterns onto the Sun Glo White Thumbnail Sketch Tracing Paper. The paper consistently transfers marks with the use of a tracing wheel with very few smudges from where the paper is held in place by my fingers/hand. I've used other transfer papers that have left many unwanted marks; this transfer paper seems to do so less frequently. This comes in a roll/box very similar to kitchen waxed paper, although without a cutting edge. I've pulled out the length of paper needed and then cut with scissors. Be sure to wipe your scissors off if you are concerned about transferring the color with your next use. I've been very pleased with the blue paper; it works well for tracing patterns and also could be used to transfer pattern markings to appropriate fabric. I'll order again when my first roll is nearing its end!

Works for transferring designs onto black chalkboard
From the Saral website, here are the differences between each color type: Graphite: The all-purpose tracing medium. Excellent for illustration board and all drawing papers, wood, fabrics, canvas and metal. Red: Excellent for ceramics and china painting. The lines will fire out. Shows up equally well on light or dark surfaces and mixtures of the two, such as photographs and photostats. May be used on acetate overlays, plastics and enamel. Blue: Non-photographic. It's not necessary to clean off Saral blue when work goes before the platemaking camera. Ideal for key lines, mechanicals, paste-ups. For Tole Painters, it leaves a bright, easy to see transfer line. Yellow and White: For tracings on dark surfaces. Excellent on dark fabrics, dark wood, metal, as well as dark painting surfaces. Tole painters find white especially useful. Yellow is best for work on clear or stained glass. The blue paper worked well enough for transferring printed designs onto chalkboard surfaces prior to writing with chalkboard markers. I was able to create professional looking chalkboard signage for my wedding by simply designing a sign on my laptop, printing out on standard paper, placing on top of the blue saral paper, tracing with pen, and going over with chalkboard marker. The paper left a faint, but readable imprint on the black chalkboard surface. Next time I would probably go with Yellow or White paper as per the guidance above.

True, 100% Erasable, Graphite Transfer Paper
Not all graphite transfer papers are created equally. It has been very frustrating to purchase “graphite” paper that is “erasable” only to find out it is not, in fact, erasable at.all. Saral graphite transfer paper does exactly what it claims, “erases like pencil”; FINALLY!!! There is no downside/con I’ve found Saral graphite paper to have. No longer do I have to worry about my hand/arm causing a smudge, I simply erase the smudge and it’s GONE! It works well for all my various projects from painting to pyrography. I highly recommend this product, it’s legit!!

Didn't work perfectly for my needs
I purchased this to trace an embroidery pattern onto fabric. I designed the pattern on my computer, printed it out on regular paper, and then used this Saral paper to transfer to white denim. The final project is an embroidered kids pillow. I had to push really hard to get the blue to go through, usually tearing the paper - which led to less accurate tracing. And even then, i got a decent pattern traced onto the fabric but not great. And more importantly, immediately after i started working on the project, much of the tracing started rubbing out completely. Luckily, i had also bought a blue washable fabric tracing marker, and i went over the whole original tracing with the marker. That marker is still in place 6 weeks later (let's hope it actually washes out after setting into the fabric so long).

The best commercial transfer paper I've tried
I usually make my own transfer paper using graphite and lighter fluid on tracing paper, but this product was easier to obtain, so I gave it a go. I found that my lines stayed sharp, and were erasable. If you have a complicated drawing, you'll probably have some graphite smear, but it's simple to clean it up with a kneaded eraser. I tried using it on 300lb rough watercolor paper, and had to retrace the complex drawing using a sharp 6H pencil, so test it out before making the mistake I did.

A reliable staple for artists
I have used SARAL for years in my art practice. It is a reliable way to transfer a loose 'map' of an image from sketchbook or photo to canvas. Like an outline for a book, it captures the basic shape and layout of your subject, but gives you full latitude to develop the image creatively. I find the rolls last a long, long time. It is especially useful when teaching painting to students with little skill or confidence in their drawing skills. It is my go to brand for transfer paper.

Embrut molt!
Se suposa que el Graphite és "all purpose" i que és net i no embrut, però no és així. És el paper de carbó de tota la vida i només de col·locar-lo, sense haver traçat res, ja tindràs tota la superfície plena de DITADES.

Very useful
Does the job well. Cut the amount you need and reuse saves money. I have even used this to trace markings on fabrics. It does smudge. Leaves dark markings after I finished tracing or transfering on my art works which is hard to get rid of.
