Will these fit through a 16 gauge stud?

All of my earrings are studs. I have no idea what the gauges are, but there is some variation. The hole in the center is large enough to let the stud through and, the discs are large enough to prevent the keeper from digging into the back of your ear.

Are they more effective than paper glue-on disks?
