DON'T BUY THIS ITEM!!!! Stay away from this Highpoint TB2 Raid Storage Unit. I bought this unit from B&H in Aug 2014, paid $1,200 and started to malfunctioning 3 weeks ago. Contacted Highpoint technical support (Allan Mah) who remotely troubleshooted the unit for three weeks. After a bunch of tests, he concluded that the unit was defective and that he will request a RMA for me because this device was still within the 1 year warranty. The week after, I got an email from Allan informing me that management disapproved the RMA because I was not using the right HDDs. Well, in accordance with Allan, Highpoint website, B&H customer support, the Seagate ST4000DM000 (which I installed 8 of them back in Aug 8 and they were working just fine) were recommended and compatible with this Raid unit. Now I am stuck with this defective box that I cannot use and down $1200 bucks.

Thunderbolt2 Hardware RAID Storage-Freedom to Choose Drives and Only $1299- Worth it
I purchased this highpoint na762tb to compliment a new Mac Pro I had picked up for 4K editing projects. I opted for the na762tb over other Thunderbolt hardware RAID storage kits as it didn’t force me to purchase a pre-configured set of drives. The one-size fits all, huge $$ storage upgrade business models of the more popular models are a huge turnoff for many. The highpoint na762 is a diskless, and supports any standard SATA and SAS drive up to 6TB (each). I was able to save a not inconsiderable amount of cash and continue using the 3TB Hitachi enterprise class drives already on hand. If I need to swap drives for a specific project or ever need to upgrade capacity, I will never have to worry about upgrading the storage platform. If you are familiar with any of HighPoint’s RAID controllers, you will right at home with the na762tb. It works right out of the box – just install the driver and reboot OS X. The management utility is also included – it uses HighPoint’s standard Web-based Hardware RAID management interface, which provides more options than you will likely ever need, and is very easy to use with the standard Safari web browser. The performance, as expected, is astounding, and the disks are always responsive – no worry about anything dropping offline or spinning down without your permission. This raises another feature that I am quite happy with – full sleep mode support in Mac! Some Thunderbolt (or even SAS/eSATA) enclosures either do not allow disks to enter power savings mode when not in use, or will never wake up if they do. The NA762TB works great with OS X’s standard power saving options – everything spun up or spun down on command, without a hitch, without affecting the array. If you need the freedom of selecting your own disks, changing things on the fly for a specific project, and want to save cash by running what you already have, I’d recommend the na762tb over any other hardware RAID enclosure on the market. The performance and stability is top notch, there are no finicky disk related issues to have to worry about, and you are free to upgrade and change the drives anytime you need. Windows and Mac support doesn’t hurt either.
