Confessor: Chainfire Trilogy, Part 3, Sword of Truth, Book 11

To little detail in story
OMG!!! We understand already Terry - "the order is bad"* See how I summed it up in four words? (Terry will, repeatedly, tells us this in long exposition)In typical fashion, Terry drags out the book (in this one through long expositions about the Order)At the end, he speeds through the interesting bits, never developing characters - and only teasing them...* spoiler (?)... to the extent, he forgot Jebra existed and did not wrap up her story line with everyone elses. What a long slog through the 11 books of the series.Book 2 was the best (it was essentially, book 1 and 2 combined - yes, he repeats that much)The 2nd book of the Chainfire trilogy was also good.I enjoyed that that the trilogy actually didnt have a 'bad' guy of the book trend, and felt like one continuing story.Great concepts, most of it is his 'philosophical' rants - which would be fine, but not every page - the same thing.Regret not skipping over half the book that were merely repeats... (seriously, I was at my wits end before Chainfire, then it picked up, and the last book was the last straw to where I will not continue to the Richard and Kalan series - which apparently will not only not offer anything new, but needlessly kill of characters you like.

Very very good
Although Wizards First Rule will always be my favorite book in the series I have to tip my hat to the author for the ending. I was pleasantly surprised at how well Mr. Goodkind left NO strings hanging. The ending is fabulous. I cried when I read the last sentence. It was SO perfect to the series and the character. This has been the most thrilling series I have ever read other than Lord of The Rings when I was very young.Terry Goodkind is a master story teller. He is NOT a sophisticated writer and his use of grammar often makes me cringe. His characters are very much alive. I look forward to reading the three addendum books entitled A Richard and Kahlan Novel. I'll read very slowly as I never want this series to end. I can't say much else without revealing and introducing spoilers - so I'll just leave this here. The entire series is great and a JOY to read - full of twists and turns. He is a Master fantasy "story teller" not a prolific writer.

Holy Crap Am I Glad That Is Over!
Well the last book didn’t disappoint, it was just as bad as the whole series. Basically you can just read the first book and be done...nothing really changes. The biggest difference between the last three books and every book before is that the final trilogy draws out painfully long the way cactus same pattern that is normally done in a single book.On a positive note, the system of magic was much better thought out towards the end and there is a lot of great and creative ideas. A very cool world has been imagined with some awesome characters. Unfortunately, reading about it is painful. There is almost no action at all. In the last few books for example I think the most action you get is a description of what amounts to a very violent game of rugby with a small battle after. Instead of action, you get to read endlessly about people traveling, reading and discussing books, non-stop recaps and characters repeating themselves about the theory of life.I’ve never read a book much less a series where I have skimmed so much of it just to get through. That held right to the end as I skimmed even the last boring chapter trying to put a neat little bow on everything. I mean in the final book of what could have been an epic series, there was two straight chapters of Ann convincing Nicci why she should marry Richard...TW CHAPTERS!!All I can say is wow...never reading anything from this guy again!

Epic in all sense of the word.
5 stars because this book has it all. Comparing it to the amazing work of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy and other great works is easy. You will find it all here. A hero and heroine, love, romance, adventure, magic, amazing battles and a profound look at good versus evil. Find yourself drawn in from the first book. Lose yourself in a remarkable journey. Smile because you made the great choice to pick this series to read. Terry Good kind has done the Amazing here. His writing is detailed, concise, filling and descriptive. There isn't anything that is too overdone and at the same time there isn't anything left lacking. Writers aspire to perform at this level. Few achieve this level without resorting to cliche and overused metaphor. Personally, this book stated some profound truths that I hold dear, and they are found in book after book of this Sword of Truth series. Choose this series and find yourself drawn in, and gain insights into your own beliefs as you turn the pages. If you have read The Wheel of Time series, you will want to read this Sword of Truth series.

The book left me feeling like I should be skimming dozens of pages at a time. It kept referencing other parts of the book that were previously read with on and on and on details- I already read them, reference it and keep the book moving. It was not nearly as exciting to read as other books in the series. Removing the repetitious sections could probably cut out 150 pages; that's how much rhetoric there was in it. I'm slowly becoming less and less enthralled with each book in the series. I'm probably done after the next book because out of 500+ pages in it, that one barely scrapes the surface of anything inspiring to "yeah, keep reading" and it's easy to set down and forget about it by page 250 so far. Bad trend and I'll probably have to pick another series going forward. Sorry Terry.

The unsatisfying ending to a downward trending series.
After grinding through 10 books an ending that is little more than 'because MAGIC everyone lived happily ever after' is a grave disservice to the long term reader.Mr Goodkind spends several books building the threat of a mysterious and seemingly unstoppable adversary only to run out of both steam and imagination in what is unfortunately a common occurrence in these books as she meets her end. And that's only one example of many.A read that I was relieved to have finished, father then glad I had read.

Legend of the. . . Confessor.
I started reading ‘The sword of truth’ books after watching Legend of the seeker. It’s been a long drawn out journey. Wizards first rule was brilliant, my favourite one of the twelve. I’ve stuck with the series, some have been better than others. You can’t always go with reviews as what one person dislikes another will enjoy.I’ve mostly enjoyed the series and the characters. Richard, Kahlan , Zed, Cara. I’m afraid some of the books just go on and on, tell the story will you and stop rambling to fill pages.I decided to listen to book twelve with audio version. It was so disappointing to tell the truth. It was a really hard slog, at times I skipped chapters. Talk about trying to run through thick treacle. Hard work. It was tedious and just didn’t impress me. What has happened TG. I just felt like not carrying on with it but I did. He’s written some great books, this wasn’t one of them.I’m sure he could come up with a new epic fantasy. As some books just keep repeating themselves over and over.It should of been a gripping page turner of an ending. It wasn’t.The final note: the series should of been fewer books, by all means tell your epic story. You are a great writer Terry, just stop filling your books with endless recycled words. I wait for another fantasy series from you. . . One day!

And on..and on.
These books started off great. Then started to pan out. Then more pan. To the point where I stopped reading at book 9. Came back and read book 10 and thought would finish this book as last in the series. Tried twice and can only get around 1/3 in. It's just doom, gloom and a plot left thin. Getting tired of the authors political views constantly being hammered into the series. Yeah he does not like socialism. I get it. Gave 2 as not fair to give 1 if not finished. The Wheel Of Time ended up like this as well. Waste of time.

Mr Goodkind is an amazing writer who has great story lines and characters but gosh does this book need a huge edit. The massive amount of pontificating really destroys this book. Less is more as they say.... Would I buy another ones of his books? Yes if I thought he listened to the reviews and addressed the very common themes raised in them. Otherwise I'll join the many reviewers who are saying they'd never buy another, which is such a shame as this writer has such talent and potential.

Very enjoyable, but lacking something
I found the last installment in this fantastic series to be slightly disappointing. However i'll start with the good bits. It carries the same style as the other books in the series which have kept me reading through over 6000 pages. The characters hold the same likability and characterisitcs which we all aspire to have, this is one of the many reasons why i enjoyed the series as much as i did. As ever this book surprised and entertained me with how problems were solved and possible plot twists were surreptitiously added in.On to the bad parts about this book. This is just a very minor gripe i have to start with and i'm not sure who the blame here falls to (editor, publisher, writer??????), but the spelling in this book was appalling. For instance, I was forever noticing e's which had been swapped for c's and vice versa. However the main disappointment was how lazy the whole book felt. It struck me that Terry Goodkind had left it very late to wrap up a lot of the story plots and therefore had to cram just to get it all finished. It also felt like he was just plain bored of writing this series, i realise there is a new book coming out and so this probably isn't the case, but that's how the book read to me.However, that being said it was a very enjoyable book all the same and i would still strongly recommend this and all of it's predecessors.Hope this review proves helpful, happy reading!

could not get back in to this series
read books 1-7? several years ago in paperback and enjoyed them, though the interest tailed off towards the end. But picking this series up again in kindle, I found I just couldn't get back into it. Some series just go on too long. I skipped to the last chapter of this last book just for the ending but I did not miss the bits I skipped in between and would not have worried if I missed the end either.
