Arbor Alma/the Giving Tree (Latin Edition)

Unusual
It's certainly an unusual story. I don't think one can read any 'anti-feminist' agenda into it; if anything it would seem to me to represent the imbalance between our supposed love of nature and the destructive exploitation of it at the same time. The story certainly lends itself to teach children what love of nature is and what it isn't.Other than that it just seems to be a somewhat eccentric story. It's entertaining but nothing to get excited about. My son (now 4) much prefers books such as Puer Zingiberi Panis: et Fabulae Alterae (Latin Edition) , Musici Bremae: et Fabulae Alterae (Latin Edition) and Dracones Romam Volant (Latin Edition) .

I don't know any latin...
...but my husband does. Some notes in English at the end of the book describe the translation process, and although I can not attest to it's accuracy, it seems very thoughtfully done. (example: distinguishing between a boy being tired and an old man being weary.)The book itself is a beautiful hard copy.Happy with the purchase!

Giving in Latin
I've been studying Latin and wanted some materials to help me continue the process. My father was so excited when he found my favorite book of all time, The Giving Tree, in Latin! I love it so much! One of the best gifts I've ever been given! Perfect condition and speedy delivery too.

great book
This book is every bit as wonderful as I remember it from my childhood. With that being said, I will say that they book is roughly translated. The original book explains how the tree loves the boy "more than she loves herself." The Latin version completely skips that line, which is paramount to the story.

favorite childhood book now in Latin
This was my son's favorite book when he was a child. I was thrilled to see it is now available in Latin. Can't wait to give it to him for his birthday!

Melancholy beauty and filled with lessons.
There’s a melancholy beauty to this book. It has the themes of generosity, greed, selfishness, altruism, growing, ageing, needs, ambition, contentment, peace, love, childhood, lost childhood, among others. The Latin is very well written and is great for intermediate students. I love this book. Does it show?
