Multilink Connecting Cubes, Set of 1,000

I was pleased when I opened the package and could smell no unpleasant odors... I was concerned the plastic might be unsuitable... I try to keep voc's to a minimum. These came exactly as picture in the bag. I sat down with my 2 and 5 year old and we sorted all of the colors. My five year started snapping them together to make pictures. (She LOVES Minecraft, and some ways these are reminiscent of the real deal).She needed help pushing them on as they are a tight fit, but she soon got the hang of it and only needed intermittent help. They were impossible for my two year old to work, but I didn't get them for him and as his hands get stronger he'll soon be snapping them together too. This is great for building strength in their hands for those pre-writing skills... which helps avoid early fatiguing with writing. My main purpose in buying these was for math (like most of us). I use Right Start Math at home and I love the Slovic abacus the implement because of the colors shifts after five. Children (and adults) can readily be taught to see groups of five without counting... but ten is too much. So I will be snapping ten rods together using two groups of five in high contrast color sets. Or for 7 I will have my girl snap five of one color and then add two more, etc. NO counting... REAL math skills. (Of course she knows how to count, but that is not our foundation.. ) Can you tell I really like the Right Start Program. Regardless though, these will work for any math curriculum. These blocks have one male side and 5 female sides to connect to on each block. After snapping ALL of the blocks together in groups of five using their respective colors I ended up with EXACTLY 100 of each color. Only one black block was not molded correctly and only the male side would work on that block =( otherwise I would give this an easy 5 stars. If you are familiar with these types of blocks (classroom grade IMO) you won't go wrong with these.
