Great drive and customer service, but plug-and-play may not happen
TL;DR: Once it works, it works great! Use a USB hub, use good software (I recommend Cyberlink PowerDVD) or be ready for a lot of finagling of free software like VLC, be ready to reset your PC if necessary, and decline PowerDVD's refresh rate adjustment.--------------------What promised to be a quick setup turned out to be a day of troubleshooting. Initially when plugged into a motherboard USB port, the drive kept going to sleep when playing media with Cyberlink PowerDVD 16. I emailed the seller and they quickly responded by recommending using a USB hub. This worked for a blu-ray disc using the AACS standard but a disc using the BD+ standard didn't want to play audio out of my TV/surround system. After attempting to install a different audio driver, my PC system stopped recognizing my TV/surround system's audio altogether.Just about at my wit's end and particularly frustrated by the audio driver issues, I reset my PC. After the reset and reinstalling PowerDVD, everything worked perfectly after I declined PowerDVD's offer to adjust my device's refresh rate. Now that it all works, I'm very happy with this drive's performance so far!

Good product, get the VLC app to support it.
Packaging and materials all are very good. Note this unit is a 2 wire unit just in case it's not clear. 1. USB3/USB-C connection (either or), 2. separate USB power cord. Power comes from the separate USB.4 stars because I had to do a bit of work to get it to play, here's why:Initially I had trouble getting DVDs to play. Initially I thought the USB slot I was using for power, was not adequate. It turned to be the DVD apps I was using. In the end I got the free VLC video player. Not very flashy but so far it appears to work flawlessly, at least for DVDs. I haven't had a chance to test Blu-ray yet. Two other apps I tried before this one caused the drive to pulse, sputter and vibrate. You could hear the head vibrating or searching constantly, almost as if it were trying to read the same small area of the DVD over and over again. I almost set it back thinking it was defective. It definitely seemed like it was a hardware issue as the apps would load, and the DVD would start to play, but then it appeared to get overloaded and the display in the app would freeze. It just turned out to not be compatible with the previous 2 apps I tried to use to play the DVDs.I followed PCWorld's write up "How to play dvds free on Windows 10". They recommended getting the VLC desktop app, NOT the Windows Store version. This one worked for me.

Excellent blu-ray disc drive that works great.
I purchased this blu-ray compatible USB 3.0 disc drive to play BD-R and access BD-RW media. So far it has worked perfectly out of the box. Just plug into your computer's USB 3.0 or USB Type C connector and the rest is plug and play. The disc drive is very quiet and fast. The case is made of aluminum with a plastic frame. It feels solid but lightweight. The disc drive door opens and closes very smoothly and is firmly and securely attached. My only gripe is that it doesn't come with blu-ray player/burning software, which even if just had a basic software utility that you can download would be great. If you are looking for the best blu-ray player and burning software, I recommend DVDFab media player. So overall, if you need a blu-ray disc drive that is also able to play or burn all of the blu-ray media types including DVD and CD then this is the product to get.

Does not work well with Mac
I am a MacBook Pro user and I was looking for a BluRay burner. First of all, this unit did not play all DVDs as advertised....did not play any of my homemade DVDs and was finicky about purchased DVDs. In fact it hardly played any. I will admit that it did play a BluRay. It was totally incapable of writing a BluRay disc with at least 3 different brands of BluRay authoring software. I ended up purchasing a Pioneer BDR-XS07S and my Mac instantly recognized it and is doing everything this unit couldn't. I am presently burning a BluRay on the new Pioneer and everything is going great. I was about to return this unit, but I missed the Sept 11 return date on Amazon. I would tell everyone to avoid this unit like the plague....better yet...Covid 19. I hope this helps someone and prompts the manufacturer to do better. Peace and love.P.S. That BluRay burn on the Pioneer was successful!!!

Not bad
This is a gift for my girlfriend, Her computer's internal DVD drive was broken last month, She loves listening music and watching blu-ray movies on computer. So I bought this external one for her. Did a lot research before buying this one, it's lucky my girlfriend like this item very much. She has watched 1 Blu-ray movie and 2 DVD movies and did some backups. Works perfect and nearly has the same speed as former internal DVD drive. This is all the feedback she has given me so far.All in all I am satisfied with this shopping.

IT IS STILL NEW
it arrived early. It took a bit of searching for software to make it work. It did not plug and play. I am giving it 3 stars because of that. The small print instruction sheet clued me into where to look for the software needed. Once installed it came to life. Works great. However, watching a Star Trek episode it hit a section that hug it up. I checked the disk, no smudges. I'll continue to monitor the situation. It is extremely quiet and plain design.

Works as intended
That's product works as intended as it is able to recognize Blu Ray and 3D discs as well as burn discs. The only problem I had was trying to get enough power into the system. It appears older laptops may not have enough power to keep the system running especially after you insert a disc. However, the way around this for me was to just power it electrically with a plug. With adequate power, the system is working as intended with absolutely no problems.

New Review!
The first drive I got did not work properly. They contacted me and offered to replace it, and the new one worked on the very first try. I am happy that they replaced it. And it seems to be working greatly.
