the drive= no complaints yet, its spending its life in a backpack and is being bounced around a lot more then what is recommend for a optical drive but its still alive.the disk= 200 year life span.. im not gonna be alive long enough to know if thats true but being shuffled around in a back pack with 60 pounds of computer EQ in both extreme hot and cold. the disk has survived much better then a dvd plus up to 100gb compared to dvd at 8gb. the disk is expensive but its worth it. i still have not yet had to replace any of my m-disk.if your trying to decided if you should buy BD drive vs just a dvd. this drive does BD, M and DVD's. no need for multiple drives. BD have high capacity, foreign movies that come in BD format often have no region code (which is why i switched). personal files will survive with the M disk unlike DVD which gets destroyed by every little annoying thing and also why no one uses them for storage. this one drive is by far more useful then any dvd drive.

I had a problem at first. with the help of the seller and fellow amazon buyers I worked them. as it turn out I did need to down load a blue ray software to get this to work. pioneer has always been a leader in this field. every place you go its pioneer. my home, great system in my car. this little unit is nice. plays very good. I like the push button top. it feels like it has a little more weight to it then others. it stays in place. all in all you cant go wrong.

When moving from a desktop PC to a NUC I needed a solution for an external Blu-ray player. This one is simple and does the job.

I wish I could have returned this Disc drive. I have not been able to burn BD discs with this drive. I waited too long and the return window was closed when I discovered the problem.

No software. Could not get it to work.

The drive itself works fine, although the USB3 interface is *way* slower than an internal drive. The reason I'm giving it two stars is that it's nearly impossible to get a disc out once you put it in. The little eject button pops open the door just fine, but there is nowhere for you to get a grip on the edge of the disc to get it out, and pushing down on the center (which on a case will often pop it out) does nothing. I cut my fingernails yesterday, and today I couldn't get a disc out at all. I finally had to go get a letter opener to wedge under the disc to pop it out. I'm sure that's not helping the life of the disc any. So, if you have to get an external drive, this one is OK as long as you don't mind the huge hassle it takes to get a disc out.

I bought this with a new Macbook Pro Retina and it took 45 minutes to burn a regular 4.7 dvd. It wouldn't recognize the DL.The connector needs 2 usb ports and the cable is not long enough to reach from 1st usb port on one side and the 2nd usb port on the opposite side of my laptop.
