I used another brand for many years, but these are so much better and easier to use, and these were not more costly than the ones I used before. They come in pretty colors and are very comfortable to use.

I have been using BIC’s 0.9mm Velocity mechanical pencil for several years, both for work and at home, and have found them to be reliable and durable. The pencil feels good in my hand, and is comfortable to write with. Clearly a consumer grade product, the prices I have paid have been quite reasonable. The older version of the Velocity I have been using has since been replaced with this newer model, which features a clear plastic housing, and a stiffer plastic clip. Cosmetically, the new Velocity may be more attractive looking, but the feel is about the same, and it still operates and writes very reliably. A nice plus is that the eraser has been improved. It appears to be made of a different material which does a better job of erasing. Three leads are typically provided with each pencil, but the tube inside can easily hold twice that number. If you plan on doing a good deal of writing, getting some spare leads would be recommended. The Velocity is available in various colors when purchased in a set of four , but unfortunately for the box of 12 pencils, the choice of color remains limited to just blue. A very solid value buy, I highly recommend the Velocity mechanical pencils. I prefer the 0.9mm size, but this pencil is also available in 0.5mm and 0.7mm. Build quality is good, and should be sufficient for most casual users. And the cost is low enough so you won’t have to be too concerned, if you or your child happens to lose one.

I do a lot of contractor type work and always need a keen edge on my pencils. I used traditional pencils for a long time, but tired of the constant need for sharpening. I also tried out an expensive mechanical pencil which lasted me less than a year, and stopped working. Among my collection of pencils I've resorted to in my large collection was an old BIC Xtra Comfort one I had found somewhere. I loved the positive feel, the 1/16" of an inch lead it fed out, the point size, everything about it. So I searched Amazon to see if if they had it and badabing, here they are and so I ordered the box. Why haven't I given it 5 stars? Because the darned eraser keeps dropping out and getting lost (I carry it in my contractor shorts), and am constantly taking it out, making up some piece, and returning it). Once that happens, the pencil is as good as trash. I suppose I could superglue it in, but then I wouldn't be able to replenish the eraser, or bulk drop new leads into the back. Not good. I suppose I could feed them through the front of the pencil, one lead stick at a time, but what a hassle. How about BIC gets their engineers to find a way to make the eraser stop dropping out?

These BIC Velocity mechanical pencils are my absolute favorite for everyday writing. The 0.9mm lead is thick and strong—no snapping, even with firm pressure—which makes them perfect for note-taking, sketching, or filling out forms. I am sometimes a bit of a stationary snob and can be very fussy about the pens and pencils that I like to use. But I've been using these pencils for a few years now. Once I find a product I love, I never want to stray from it! The writing is very smooth, the erasers work amazingly. The pencils are comfortable to hold and they must come with a good amount of led in them because I do quite a bit of writing with pencils and they last for quite a long time.

Love these pencils! I usually get .7mm lead pencils and we go through so many refills due to snapped leads. I also have 1.3mm pencils which are good but are too think for doing math. The .9mms are just right! I still have some BIC Velocity .7s from last year, so I know the design holds up over time.

Extremely overpriced. Made in China (although BIC is a French company), almost completely of plastic. The plastic cap on the eraser is flimsy and does not last long. The same is true of the rubber grip which will become tacky over time and disintegrate. Not made of durable material and hence hugely expensive.
