Volkswagen Super Beetle 1303 by Jouef of France
When Jouef of France first released their 1:43-Scale Volkswagen Super Beetle Sedans and Convertibles in numerous exterior colors in either the late 1980s or early 1990s, not many other toymakers had done a reproduction of the VW 1303 "Curved Windshield" Super Beetle. Jouef was eventually bought out by Hornby Hobbies of the United Kingdom. Polistil of Italy also made the 1303 Super Beetle Sedan and Convertible in the late 1970s, but in not as many exterior colors - and in a larger scale of 1:24 or 1:25. Polistil also lost its corporate independence, having been bought out by Tonka Toys (Hasbro of the USA). Since that time, Minichamps of Germany has made both the 1302 and the 1303 Super Beetle Sedans and Convertibles - 1302 being the flat windshield version (1970-1972) and the 1303 being the car with the curved windshield (1973-1979). The Minichamps 1:43-Scale models are very accurate in both build and colors - they use only authentic VW factory colors that were actually sold in real life. That said, the older and less accurate version made by Jouef of France is nice for collectors and VW enthusiasts. Just know that these models are old - chrome strips may have come unglued over two decades of storage.
