A Unique Protagonist and his Bonds with his Students
- Synopsis: Our protagonist of the story was once known for his fearsome and awe-inspiring title of "Black Master Swordsman". After a dangerous battle against mysterious insect-like enemies, he is now the source of mockery and sneer as others stigmatize him as being a traitor. Unfazed, our hero has no qualms about fading into the background. However, he once again is forced to take center-stage as he is tasked with the difficult job of training the worst fire team in the academy. Will he be able to train this problem-ridden fire team, or will he fail as everyone else is expecting?===========================================================================================================- Comments: If you got tired of main characters that get flustered over small male-to-female interactions (which most male main characters do) like holding hands or some ecchi situation, then you will really like this guy. He's mature and more reserved. He's unique and is fairly relaxed but also cautious, as well as extremely skilled in the proficiency of handling a blade. Overall, he isn't an emotionless silent protagonist like in some animes, yet isn't a goofball that cannot be taken seriously. This makes him very interesting and unique. A nice refreshing protagonist rarely found in many animes.- Features: English and Japanese audio with English subtitles. Includes 12 episodes on 2 Blu-rays and 12 on 2 DVDs with an approximate run-time of 5 hours. This anime is rated TV-14 for violence and some fan-service.- Conclusion: As others might have stated, there are some questions such as the circumstances surrounding the enemies they fight. As they do seem there for plot convenience. Other than that, the interactions are amusing; the protagonist is an interesting character that isn't a push-over like many protagonist, but he's not so powerful that fights become boringly one-sided. There's plenty of cute girls and the plot is relatively simplistic. There is moderate fan-service, so do keep that in mind if that isn't your thing. Overall, an entertaining anime emphasizing the interactions and relationship between an instructor and his unique students.===========================================================================================================- Recommendations: Black Bullet, Freezing, Cross Ange, Buso Renkin, Absolute Duo, Needless, Tokyo Ghoul, Kampfer, Maken-Ki, Ben-To, Sekirei, Lord Marksman and Vanadis, K, Code:Breaker, and Blade Dance of the Elementalers.

Good alternate future adventure anime.
Setting is interesting, story flows well, ending is open for another season apparently. Female characters are tropes taken almost to extremes, the little blonde with no self-confidence that is very shy, the black-haired-beauty who thinks she is a goddess (literally), and the redheaded leader wannabee who's more likely to charge in head first than make a plan. This is E-601, the worst class at the Academy. To try to bring them up to par they get a new teacher, a guy everyone refers to as a traitor! Here, at least, is a character that isn't quite as generic as the rest. He does fall under the "man of mystery" trope to some degree, but he's also a nice guy and helps people freely. Needless to say he gets the E-601 class into passing shape and more. I'll stop here to not spoil anything.

Am I Missing Something?
The people of Sky Wizards Academy live on floating cities, attacked by giant bugs, and we don't find out why. The strongest sky wizard, Kanata Age, has been labeled a traitor, despised by almost all who knew him, and we don't find out why. One of the sky wizards of the past is shown to be an adult, not a student, and we don't find out why. When one sky wizard is shown dying, normal humans, including spouses, are shown utterly forgetting her existence, and we don't find out why. Frankly, I've learned more watching Japanese anime series I didn't have any translation for, than I've learned from watching this, in English, and other reviews have suggested that the problem isn't in the English translation. Now, it isn't unwatchable. Kanata's teaching/management style is absolutely insane and surprisingly effective, and his absolute imperviousness to all the criticism that gets heaped upon him is hysterical, especially in response to all the female anime lunatics he has to deal with, but there really isn't much there. Astonishingly, there is both a manga series and a long light novel series preceding this; one wonders if having read this would cause the series to actually make sense.Note: The OVA is included as a subtitled in English only extra and manages to make less sense than a regular episode.

Better if it included the Digital Copy
The anime has a great story line, great artwork, and very enjoyable.I would have given this item 5 stars if it wasn't missing half of the content: the digital copy. The disc was factory-sealed and included both Blu-Ray discs, but it did not include the insert that provides the instructions and code necessary to obtain the digital copy. The Blu-Ray version was perfect and quite enjoyable, but I did pay for a package that includes a digital copy.

open-ended scifi series with interesting developments
Another post-apocalyptic sci anime, where humans have moved to floating cities to avoid flying creatures that kill them. There is an academy for training "sky wizards" who use various types of skills and special weapons to defend the city against attack. Among the students is a squad of misfit girls, who as a last resort to avoid expulsion, are given an instructor many consider to be a traitor, without knowing the facts. Can the four girls and their instructor rise through the ranks to prove themselves worthy defenders? And what is the instructor's secret?A lot happens in the 12 episode series. As usual, the ova is a side story that has little impact on the rest of the series but adds a bit of fun It's nice for it to be included. This often does not happen with Funimation.
