Why so long???? Because I want you to know everything about this belt so you can determine if it's right for you or not. I love reading reviews when I'm trying to decide on a purchase and I love helpful reviews people take the time to write that answer all of my questions, so I'm going to try and address all of yours. Thanks to everyone who posted the reviews I've read on this belt. 1st. The testing environment. I purchased this primarily to wear in the woods when doing clearing, land prep, and hunting. It will need to carry a heavy revolver and/or heavy survival chopping type knives. I used this with the Ontario SP8 machete and a nylon uncle mike's holstered S&W 6" barrel 686 .357 magnum. Secondly, possibly at the gun range for a holstered handgun. I used this with Propper BDU pants as that's what I always wear in the woods as my hunting and deer lease work pants. I have a size 36" waist and wear a Large Regular BDU pants. I needed something that can get wet in the rain or if I take a spill in the swamp and I need something that I can drench with sweat. I am using this belt in Southeast Louisiana woods/swamps year round. 2nd. The belt. I purchased the olive green size med/large for my 36" waist. The description says 49" long but mine actually measured 50" from the outside edge of the buckle to the very point of the free end. The belt's free end is trimmed at a 45 degree angle. The belt is a true 1 3/4" in height. The two steel buckles actually measure 2 3/8" in height...larger than the web height measurement. Very important as it limits you to pants with large enough belt loops. These measurements are important as you will be able to use them to help you determine what size belt might be right for you, and also to see why this belt takes a bit of effort to adjust. 3rd. Quality. 1st class in every respect. It is made from thick webbing with ample velcro. The stitching looks very good and has multiple rows and criss-cross patterns in the areas that secure the buckles. The stitching in this area seems to be double and triple row width. It has single row stitching (but 3 rows and a border) on the velcro areas and only time will tell if it is sufficient to last. I have no concerns at this point that it wont last. The steel belt buckle and attachment point triangle buckle have a dark gray parkerized looking finish and they look as if you could pull a truck out of the mud with them. Very well built and heavy! The hook part of the Velcro (scratchy plastic part) is 6" long while the loop part (soft fuzzy part) of the velcro is 23" long. There is an 1 1/4" space between the two. The strap and velcro that holds the triangle buckle folded flat is of the same high quality and holds the buckle down securely. It too has three rows and a border on stitching (of single row stitching). Color green is very nice with a true olive drab color. The serrated sliding lock bar in the center of the buckle has awesome aggressive serrations that hold the belt locked into place well and is of the same heavy forged steel as the rest of the buckle. I cant imagine that anyone purchasing this would have any concerns at all about the quality of the build. The thickness of the webbing without using a micrometer is about 1/8" thick. Think heavy duty! 4th. Fit....This is where it can get just a bit dicey. When the belt arrived, I was worried it would not be flexible enough. It seemed too stiff at first and actually held the fold marks from the packaging. Not to worry, as it softened up and conformed to my waist after only a few hours of wear. The material does stay less pliable in the area of the buckles because it's doubled over, but not enough to where the belt did not conform to my shape. On my Propper BDU pants, the belt passed through the loops with no problems, but the steel buckles would not pass through the loops. Here is where proper size choice of belt is important and why I say it's not a quick on and off belt and takes just a bit of time to get adjusted. This will be hard to explain, but after passing the belt through all of the loops and going through the buckle you need to push the webbing into the buckle to get the proper level of tension and pull on the free end at the same time to snug the webbing down in the buckle. Once this is done, it does not move! I had no problems with slippage either tightening down further or loosening up. My particular belt/waist/pants combination had 8" of free end left after secured at the level of tightness I prefer. So that means after I secured the webbing in the buckle properly, I measured from the edge of the buckle to point of the free end and there was 8" of excess tail. The point of the tail actually over lapped the belt loop to my right by 1/4". This is Important, because if you have a smaller waist than me the tail is going to be longer (more on that in a minute) and if you have a larger waist than me, the tail shortens up and you still want enough tail to secure down to the velcro. Now on to the excess tail which takes a little longer to secure flat. Some reviewers have said they velcro down the loose tail end by securing it on top of the belt loops (to your right of mid line if looking down at your waist.) I prefer to have the tail end secured down and under my belt loops. Here is why that can get tricky. Once the belt is properly secured in the buckle I need to slide the belt as far left (looking down at my waist) as it will go. That way I can velcro the tail end down flat and then slide the belt back to the right so the tail end slides back under the next belt loop to the right. Where the problem comes in is when you slide the belt to the left it will only go as far as the triangle buckle allows. The triangle buckle is too big to pass through the first belt loop to the left (when looking down at my waist.) When I get it all the way left with the triangle buckle up against the left belt loop I can just make securing the tail end down without being on top of the belt loop to the right. If I drop any more weight this summer and the tail end extends out past 8" it becomes tricky to secure the tail end down and have it slide under the right sided belt loops. This might not be a big deal to some as they may secure the tail end on top of the belt loops but you need to be aware. I think this is important because where I wear the buckle (in the front) is different if you use the attachment point (belt needs to be slid to the right so attachment point is now at your mid line) I like the idea of being able to slide the belt back and forth to switch between which buckle falls even with your mid line. As I said, on these particular pants a longer than 8" tail causes a problem in securing the tail end under the belt loop to the right. WHEW!!!!! enough of that!! I hope that I explained it properly. The reason for the dissertation is to explain why this belt might not be right for you if you are taking it on and off many times per day. When the tail sticks out past the 1st loop to the right it takes considerably more time to take this belt on and off and that might be a concern for some people. If the loops on your pants are large enough to pass the buckles through this becomes a non-issue. On my BDU's, they were not large enough. As far as the rest of the fit was concerned, there were no problems. I had no issues with any parts of the belt pushing up against my skin when my shirt was un-tucked. It did not pinch or bind anywhere. You do however notice this thing is on you. It is of substantial weight and thickness and I can tell the difference between it and other belts. When worn with a shirt tucked in the pants it becomes less noticeable. Yes it held my pants up just fine, yes it's a bit heavy, yes it does not come on and off really fast like a traditional belt, but no I would not remove stars for any of this. It's inherent of this design. it's not a flaw, you just need to decide if it's the right application for what you are using it for. 5. Function of belt. As stated earlier I wore the SP8 machete or the revolver with the belt and had no issues here. It held both items properly on my wast with no sag or fold over on the belt. you might get a tiny bit of flex if an item is very heavy, but not to where it is even worth mentioning. As a side note, I also have a thinner smaller knock-off &-bay version called free hawk that holds my pants up just fine but is not as good of a choice for attaching heavy items and I damn sure wouldn't hang myself from the buckle. As far as the buckle, I am 5'10 210 lbs and i can definitely support my entire body from this attachment point (yes I tested this.) I will never use this belt to rappel down anything, but it's nice to know that I could if I wanted too. I might use it to secure myself when climbing in a deer stand or in a tree and I would have no fear whatsoever of it failing. Or if I ever died in a deer stand my wife and daughter could lower my body down by this belt and it would not fail. (we actually had a poor hunter die in the stand on our lease and had to be lowered down by ropes which made me think of this.) (Yes my wife and daughters are beautiful and attractive and hunt more than most guys I know.) Of course in any kind of outdoors emergency where a heavy duty strap of this size could save your bacon this belt would nicely fill the bill. It's just that bada$$. If you strapped it to a downed tree, I'm certain you could pull said tree out with a winch and cable. (please don't use your belt for this.) I also like that when I'm in the woods and get caught in a heavy down pour with weight strapped to the belt, it doesn't ruin, sag, and stretch the belt like my heavy leather work belt did. (been there done that.) I've even had belts get a little nasty from pouring sweat into them all day while working in the outdoors. This baby is completely waterproof and quick drying so none of those issues here. 6. Value. Outstanding!! Why pay double or triple for the same quality when this guy was only 27.95 free ship at the time of this review. i cant imagine this thing wouldn't last a lifetime and even loose velcro can be sewn back down if that occurs. Only large weight fluctuations, downright abuse, or a great white shark attacks at waist level would make this obsolete for use. 7. Overall impressions. It's an awesome belt that is built like a tank and doesn't cost nearly as much as one. Maybe a bit overkill if just being used to hold your pants up. A bit slow to put on as compared to a traditional buckle belt, but you knew this going into it. Is it the best choice for everyday carry??? you determine that. I have a daltech superbio belt that i think is the better choice for plain clothes concealed carry because it's quick to take on and off, looks dressier, but has the same capabilities of the Condor. But for in the woods use, and anytime I'm in my BDU's I'll choose this every time. This belt might be overkill if your just looking to hold your pants up and nothing else, but I actually strap heavy things to my waist at times and this is perfect for that. Yes you can go with the cheapy knock-off model which will hold your pants up just fine. For BDU shorts or small belt loops I almost prefer it. But it's smaller in height, not comfortable to hang anything on, much thinner, and don't dare use the buckles for weight bearing....but it'll hold your pants up and work fine with a lighter belt knife. The sizing seems to be accurate from the company, so stick with that advice but remember it's a size range...so someone is going to have a longer belt and someone is going to have a shorter belt....even when in the correct size range. This is why I went into such great detail on how this belt fit my particular waist size. As a side note, certain holsters may cause your belt to shorten up so be aware. An inside the waistband holster would definitely shorten up the belt considerably. I.M.H.O. I'd use a traditional buckle carry belt for that purpose. So this belt is definitely military/tactical/manly-man looking so take that into consideration when matching it to your needs. Overall I am very pleased with what I received for what I spent.
