First of all, it's MADE IN THE U.S.A. ! What could be better than that ? Next, it is as sharp as a razor, and stays that way. I've turned about 7 vases, bowls, and other lathe projects in the month since I bought this...ALL hardwoods (walnut, cherry, maple, and oak) as well as some "stabilized" (with hard epoxy) wood. This thing cuts through them like butter. I will say there was a "learning curve" because it is so sharp. When hollowing out your project (especially a vase, chalice, cup, etc that is difficult to see into as you are cutting), you absolutely have to be careful to not take too much at one time (especially against the grain). This thing will cut your project wall thin in a matter of minutes. I recommend the lightest touch on the wall (thickness) until you get a "feel" for it. It cuts fast and clean. I have no signs whatsoever of dulling so far. The control with the long and sturdy handles is fantastic. I have no complaints at all, and would definitely recommend this product to ANY wood turner...beginner to expert !

The shaft is thick enough but it probably needs to be wider because it wants to roll. It was very difficult to keep flat. I thought it was too expensive for what I received.

I have several turning tools but this one is heavier than most and a pleasure to use. As it is a hollower, you need to hold on to it to prevent bounce. I am going to replace my other easy wood tools with Simple.

I just received this tool tonight and used it for about an hour. It is extremely well made. Top quality. The handle is heavy, but well balanced and the cushion grip is very comfortable to hold.The blade stock is solid and finished very well. It cuts kind of similar to a round nose scraper when you present it to the wood. It will take some practice to develop smooth Inner walls in areas that you cannot see.I will definitely be ordering the hollowing system and other tools from this company in the future. Shipping was faster than expected. The product as a whole represents a company that strives for outstanding quality and perfection in tool making.Update! It’s been almost a year now. The tool is still amazing. For anyone starting out with this tool you will notice that it likes to twist on you. The best method I’ve found is to attach a pair of vice grips to the lowest portion of the square mettle stock and hold from there. I’ve been doing that for a long time and it makes cutting a lot more controllable, plus you will be able to cut far more aggressively. I use that method free hand before switching over to the laser hollowing system to achieve thin consistent walls on hollow forms.I am not affiliated in anyway with this company.
