SUUNTOCobra Dive Computer Console (Cobra Compass Only)

I like this compass a lot. It is a high end compass and is priced accordingly. It is easy to read, does not have to be perfectly level to get a good reading, and a charge up with your dive light keeps it glowing for night dives. The bezel is sturdy and rotates nicely.This particular cobra mount fits onto the end of my Suunto console with the two screws that were already on my mount and was easy for me to install.A note of caution: compasses are the least reliable and most delicate of all dive equipment. I prefer the end of console position but it does expose the compass to getting bumped mostly on land, such as during handling and set up of the equipment. The face can come off the pin upon which it rotates and become jammed. Most of the time gentle tapping gets it back in working order.That is only drawback of console mounted compasses (of any brand). That is why some of my diving friends prefer a wrist mount.

Bought this as an add on for my Cobra 2 because I don't like the digital compass on it and I like having a dedicated compass so that I can still see my computer gauges. Works great. Large and easy to read. Works at up to +/- 30 deg tilt which is more than most and any digital computer gauge that I have seen. Be careful of the zone calibration. This is zone 1. Works good at home and while not calibrated for my trip to Hawaii. Only complaint is the price.

My husband and i always dive together so he always uses his compass to get us where we need to be. This summer though I am helping a young girl out who wants to be a trainer. She needs 100 dives logged to get started. So we are going to some lake diving as soon as the water gets a little warmer. So it was time to get my own compass. As I am familiar with this compass and it fits with my dive computer it was my first and only choice. I am very happy with it.

I attached it to my Suunto pressure gauge. Its been on two dives of 40 and 50 feet with no problems so far.

This is my second Suunto SK7 compass. The first lasted some 1,000 dives, and worked great except the numbers were worn off from too many dives! This compass has a good tilt tolerance, and is calibrated for Suunto's Zone 1. So, it's not calibrated for Hawaii, but it's close enough! I'm using this with the Suunto Cobra 2, as I find the Cobra 2's built-in digital compass completely worthless.
