The Ultimate Air Force Basic Training Guidebook: Tips, Tricks, and Tactics for Surviving Boot Camp

Solid info, needs a little proof reading though.
as the title states all of the information in this book is excellent for any recruit looking to go into the air force, or is getting ready for basic. but also, unfortunately, i found multiple typos both grammatically and spelling. and it wasnt as if the words were difficult to spell i just think the book was probably typed up and no one really proofed it. personally i find that if the proof reading step is overlooked then maybe the book itself isnt really up to par with the information it claims to contain, but im glad to say that's not the case with this book.but anyways enough about the cons...just about everything you would need to know about getting ready for basic is in here. it has a week by week synopsis of what to expect and what you should or shouldnt do (mostly common sense, but it's always good to have). also there's an eight week workout program specifically designed to make anyone fit and more than well prepared for PRT once at basic. it even has parts about how you should approach the recruiter and what you should do or say, which if i had known i probably would have felt much more sure of myself because talking to a recruiter can be very stressful for some people.i'd recommend this book to anyone looking to join the air force or someone already getting prepared for basic. this is a great investment for parents who want their child to excel through basic, or for someone who is just trying to better understand what to expect in general from the air force.

Air Force Basic training has changed since I did it 50 years ago!
I bought this book for my granddaughter that just graduated from high school. She has been talking about maybe going into the military and using her Montgomery GI Bill to pay for college. Now she is getting "cold feet" saying that she is afraid that she will join and not like it. I've tried to tell her that it is not that bad in BMT as what you see in movies, the Air Force isn't the Marine Corp. Now she will not read the book, says she doesn't have time. I picked it up and didn't put it down until it was finished. The biggest complaint I had was there was a lot of "typos" and a bunch of misspellings, it looked like the author had edited sentences and had left double words.

Beware of errors!
Many things about this book are correct, but a lot of it isn't. There are plenty of spelling and grammar mistakes, the physical requirements to graduate are incorrect (unless you're shooting to get a pretty ribbon if/when you do graduate), you're not as rushed to eat and there is a much bigger variety of food than chili mac and bread, at least when it comes to dinner and lunch. Breakfast is always the same, but sometimes they somehow cook it differently. Yes the book is helpful, but a LOT of what you will experience in BMT you can't just read about; you have to actually be there. There is plenty of screaming, a LOT of rushing, and if you're slow you'll do it again until you get to about 2nd week when they start making you beat your face. Also, if you have a Kindle, I highly recommend either bringing a very cushioned bag to hold your Kindle or don't bring it at all. Instructors aren't the most careful with your personal belongings, and when you're done with BMT either by graduating or getting kicked out, you'll find its screen cracked and you'll need to turn it in for a new one.One more thing: No matter what your recruiter says to you, DO NOT LIE ABOUT ANYTHING! They WILL double check everything in BMT, and they'll wait until you get your name tags to actually do something about it. Even then, the recruiter could choose to ignore a fact and just get your paperwork done so he gets one more trainee under his name.

BEST PURCHASE EVER
This book is the absolute best in the nation. I learned so much from it!My entire family is Navy and Army, so low and behold when I decided to go Air Force. This has definitely prepared me for what is to come. Even my family read it and agreed that they wished they had the chance to buy this book before they joined. It goes into great detail of the trials and tribulations of bootcamp, and the games the military likes to play. There is no bulls**t written in this book. It is quick, concise and very straightforward. I am more than blessed to have found this. The price does not compare to the amount of information given in the book. It is more than worth it.Thank you, Nicholas Van Wormer for your great insights into the AF world. It has been a great help, and I am completely satisfied with my purchase.

great info
This book has great information about basic. If you are signed up as active and only have so long before shipping, you definitely need to get this. There are so many items that you will need to memorize while waiting at any time in basic and this book will provide a few more tips to save time. The book shipped through regular mail and came quick. I am shipping out in sept of 2012 and I am part of a DEP program that is giving me the information to memorize and this book provides a few more things to know at basic. I am sure that some or most of the tips in this book may be outdated due to the fact that the air force becomes more efficient over time but, the information that is contained in this book is extremely helpful. I recommend this book to anyone who is shipping soon or in the future.

Good Read, but not all that comprehensive.
PROS: Easy to read and informative, details of basic training I had not found on internet, advice based on the writer's experiences that were interesting, good basic knowledge base for starting research relating to air force, references to other resources reader might find useful.CONS: Not comprehensive to all details needed for basic training prep, only one person's perspective.Overall the book was enjoyable to read and is a good place to start if you are wanting to know what to expect relating to basic training. It is, however, only a guide book, not a full-fledged basic training study book. It is good light reading whether or not you are really serious about going into the USAF.

Very precise!
I needed to know about the Air Force and this book was very easy reading and helpful. I just wish there was an update version because it’s almost ten years old.
