An Apple a Day ...

This is a quality book.
This is a quality book. With Neil Murphy’s atmospheric opener, Julian Gough and Jeremy Fernando bring readers to their apple worlds and beyond. It is pure brilliance by Gough to conceive of the “iHole” idea, and the playful elegance of Fernando’s challenge for people to think beyond getting caught in the fall of man and the trap of exorcism leaves readers with a hearty appreciation of becoming aware. After reading, I chuckled at the banana photo on the cover: it became so evident to me that I had forgotten that apples were fruit; then I saw apples everywhere in the book. The photographs and layout by Tan Jingliang and Yanyun Chen add great dynamics to the reading experience. Indeed, this book will keep doctors away, and one more thing, the photo doesn’t convey it, but the texture of the cover is so silky and smooth; I have become quite attached to its feel.

Julien Gough's iHole is one of my favorite (trying to stay away from the word best) things to have read over the past few years; iS6 is dear Dr. Jeremy Fernando doing his wild, lucid dance through the thoughtscapes of philosophy and culture/society, Professor Neil Murphy's intro sets a tone that gets the reader ready for the wild trip, and Jingliang Tan's photos mesh it all together. Once again Delere Press has produced a book that is a piece of art.

A Charming and Intense Read
An Apple a Day ... was an intense and charming read. To be fair, I find bold and self-aware books charming. The book itself is beautiful and a joy to explore. Julian Gough's story opens the text with extraordinary vision, clarity, humor, and style. Jeremy Fernando's theory excitingly explores the contemporary world blending together the voices of several of the 20th Century's great thinkers. Fernando's blending results in an exploration of the state of the world that is at once uniquely his own and also part of a brilliant community of thinkers.
