Entertaining, Fun, Great Acting, Loved Humor!
I read some of the "not so good" critics, mainly due to poor image quality (their device, I guess) or lack of subtitle. Well, this has nothing to do with the movie itself. This is a French language movie and, as we all know (most of us, I guess), perfect translation is almost impossible when it comes to expressions and local jokes. Now, the movie. It is very well done and original. Of course, some scenes/decors are a bit exaggerated but this is the goal of the all story! One should have guessed this since the first minute!Acting is great and all were perfect for this story. I laugh to hard at times!Multiple possible stories (fiction or not) including in the entire script.A bit political.. Yes when it comes to past (and probable to come) scandals, but certainly not the point to be pointed out to "anyone in particular". so, no big deal.I had a good time watching this movie and I would recommend it to anyone who is fluent in French! Probably not for beginners or for viewers who only rely on subtitles.

justice for the small
This film is about a group of warm, lovely people who did not see themselves as part of the 'normal' world. So they live on their own private dugout creating things that their individual talents provide. Danny Boon who plays Bazil, the main protagonist has a bullet lodged in his brain through a ricochet. When he discovers that the manufacturer of the bullet also manufactured the bomb that killed his father, he and his friends decided to take revenge on this weapons maker and the arms dealer across the road. The ruses to get to the end point are fast-paced, exciting, humorous, all at once. The characters are endearing, and the dialogue is entertaining. When the female contortionist was making a pass at Bazil, he told her, 'My mother warned me to stay away from twisted girls'.I watched this film in French with English subtitles. The cinematography and warmish colour lend a charm to this film. No spoilers, you deserve to enjoy scene yourself.

another treasure from Jean-Pierre Jeunet
If you're finding this movie because you liked Jeunet's "AMELIE",. then you should not hesitate to go ahead and watch this delightful little movie. Something of a blend of THE FANTASTIC MR. FOX, MYSTERY MEN and THE TALL BLONDE MAN WITH ONE BLACK SHOE as shot through the lens of AMELIE, it is a treat to enjoy. It's a good bit darker than AMELIE, and the characters aren't quite as lovable or well-developed as that movie, but the storyline is topical and at times profound, the capers and quirks are satisfying and the milieu is almost as engaging as the earlier movie.Dany Boon is good as a man damaged by industrial greed and avarice, and Andre Dussolier and Nicholas Marie are truly outstanding as his nemeses - Marie's character Marconi in particular is a deep study of the archetypal smooth profit-at-any-cost monster. Rubber-faced Dominique Pinon and Yolande Moreau return and are wonderful as always. The effects and rube-goldberg contraptions are delightful whimsy, and it keeps you laughing and engaged the whole time - except for one scene near the end which makes you think, deep, long and hard **. I recommend it.(**P.S. - I wrote this before I knew of the horrifically tragic events in Paris yesterday, which make this movie's theme and message even more poignant.)Nous sommes tous Charlie. Nous sommes tous Elijah Lovejoy. Look deeper - this film gives a little perspective.

Charming and Imaginative
In what seems to be a dramatic and unfortunate chain of events turns out to be a hilarious comedy of retribution. The main character, Brazil, is shot in the head by a stray bullet and looses everything. He attempts to hold the manufacturer of the bullet responsible for his injury by confronting them directly and, of course, ends up being tossed to the curb. He meets a group of vagrants who make a living refurbishing and repurposing discarded junk. This eclectic group of unusual characters becomes Brazil's allies in a plot to turn two arms manufactures against one another, and help them see the error of their ways. What I found most enjoyable about this film is Jean-Pierre Jeunet's artistic use of sets, scenery, and situations to tell a story full of moral goodness and human indomitability. Featuring a performance from Dominique Pinon, I quickly found myself immersed in Jean-Pierre Jeunet's world of Micmacs. Like many of his other films, a series of unconnected satires come together in a climatic finish, so seamlessly it feels something magical just happened to you. Plus, I just love listening to people speaking French.

Surreal French fantasy
Almost, but not quite. This lies squarely between Amelie and The City of Lost Children in a number of ways: in warmth, in contact with reality, in believable characters. But, with fantasy of this calibre, you just have to take it in its own terms, whatever the heck those are. This starts with gritty urban credibility. As a boy, Bazil's father is killed by a weapon from one dealer. As an adult, he's nearly killed by a weapon from another. Brain-injured but capable, he finds a new home among an urban salon de refusees - the people refused by the rest of society. The take him in as one of their own and with him, his mission for revenge. From there, Micmacs creates a beautiful assemblage of slapstick, political commentary, personal warmth, and intellectual goofing. Each character (and they are characters) contributes in his or her own way. Early on, though, I glommed onto the contortionist. Really, she has a central spot in all the good scenes.Fun, fantasical, and fairly flaky, I wish this for everyone with a taste for the quirky.-- wiredweird

Quirky French Film
I stumbled across this searching for something to watch. I enjoy foreign films, though that wasn't what I was searching for tonight. Good directing and story. If you don't mind subtitles and enjoy dark comedy, this film is definitely worth a go.

Love this movie
Main character as a boy, his father died of a land mine. He grew up and got shot by a gun. He made "special" friends. He found out the companies that made the land mine and bullet. He wanted to stop these companies. His friend helped him to do it.

MicMacs is a good as Amelie
In its own way, as good as 'Amelie', and surprising that it didn't become as much of a smash hit. Like 'Amelie' it is full of gentle humour with no shock-horror moments - despite the fact that the story begins with our hero ending up with a bullet lodged in the brain and despite the fact that the main theme concerns revenge on two arms manufacturers. Even the bullet sequence is illustrated without masses of gory detail - all rather comically artful, really - while the story is woven around a set of truly delightful mis-fits. No spoilers here, but the ending is just terrific. If you enjoyed Amelie you should definitely try MicMacs.

A different but excellent French movie.
A very funny film but with a serious side. A bunch of misfits take on the arms manufacturers and win.A first glance it seems to be too oddball for many tastes, but actually it is well-written and directed with style and purpose. It is outside the normal mainstream of semi-serious films, but all the better for that. The DVD contains an interview with the director which is most enlightening.

Works perfectly
Some people said that this didn't have UK subtitles, they worked for me no problem.

What a micmac can do!
An excellent film in the genre of Jeunet et Caro, heavy on the irony and circumstantial humour, it will appeal to adults and children and doesn't labour the underlying message which is delivered with a laugh.Cheaper than the cinema this film is definitely worth the money.

Great family film - get the popcorn ready but expect to drop most of it, due to laughing so much
I love this film, so I am biased. Even with subtitles it is still a hilarious and totally enjoyable movie, with something happening every few seconds. If you want an easy-going, laugh-out-loud film for all the family, you can't go wrong with Micmacs
