Christian Body: Modesty and the Bible

Extremely informative book on what the Bible teaches about modesty, clothing, and nakedness.
Very informative. I never took the time to actually study what the Bible actually said regarding nudity, modesty, and clothing. It reminds me that we need to extract from the Bible based on the culture it was written in, not read into the Bible based on cultural expectations.

Excellent discussion of nudity throughout history from a Biblical perspective
This book confirms for me what I have long believed, that simple nudity is normal and natural and that our bodies are nothing to be ashamed of. God proclaimed our bodies as good, and it was Satan who convinced Adam and Eve that our bodies are shameful. The author is very thorough in his review of Biblical references to nudity, and nowhere does the Bible condemn it. One of the things that the author points out that bothers me the most is that modern Bible translators have revised the wording of their translations to remove the examples of simple and acceptable nudity in order to conform with modern prudery.Simple nudity has been a part of everyday life since the beginning, but the Church in modern times has convinced people that our bodies are shameful and should be covered up. This has created a huge market for pornography, something that Christians can agree is not good. The Church's solution to this is to advise women to cover up so that they won't tempt men into lustful thinking and for men to avert their eyes when they see a woman who is not dressed "modestly," which is a highly subjective term, not to mention that it has been misconstrued by many Christians. This approach doesn't address the real problem, which is respect for women, and it is bound to fail, as well. The solution is to normalize simple nudity and teach basic respect for other people. The Bible neither encourages, nor discourages nudity. While I would not consider myself to be a nudist, as most of the time I wear clothes, I do enjoy the freedom of being nude outdoors, especially when I swim and sunbathe. I also enjoy the open-mindedness of my nudist/naturist friends, both Christian and Non-Christian, who share my enjoyment of simple nudity. Unfortunately, America does not offer enough places to be nude outdoors, and we have laws against "public indecency." I am also rather disheartened to see many in the younger generation who seem to be adverse to even common and accepted nudity, such as changing at the gym. I do hope that the tide will change and that simple nudity will become ordinary and accepted, as it is in many places in Europe. Lastly, I hope that Church leaders will wake up to realize that their teachings on "modesty" have played right into Satan's hands and that they should look at what the Bible really says and doesn't say about nudity.

Solid. Well researched
A good book for anyone "on the fence" about nudity, or any thinking Christian. A little repetitive, but sound.Probably won't convince someone who has already made up their mind and doesn't want to be challenged, but any intelligent, open minded person should find it refreshing

Truth
Aaron doesn't say anything in this book that hasn't been said by myself, by David Hatton, and many others. He simply does a thorough job of removing our currently perverted cultural views from the truth of the scripture. He even gives proof of how the modern translations have a bias woven into them in the words chosen by the translators. He states again what so many already know, that our culture would rather persist in living under the comfort of a lie than be thrust out into the light of God's truth. Thank you Aaron for taking the time to step through the details of the Bible, of history, and of cultures to reveal the truth that has always been since the creation of man by God.

Mixed Feelings
The book itself was well-written. I need to really dig into the hermaneutics, but the arguments are worth considering. My problem (and I know this is ad hominum logic at play) is that the author's personal web site has become so offensive, so abrasively athiestic, that it taints other works be the author. His slips in logic and hostility towards those who don't believe as he does makes me believe there may be severe flaws in the thinking and attitudes underlying this book. Other "great" works have fallen apart over time, I must wonder whether this one will also.

Modern Modesty: Truth or Heresy?
The false modesty of modern religion—identical to the culturally pagan concept of “purdah”—is a Satan-inspired denial of God’s viewpoint and its departure from true biblical modesty is dysfunctional and destructive. As this theme runs through the book Christian Body, a strong case for its validity is articulated by its author.Because of its large print and my deep interest as a writer on the same subject, I read this book in one day. I found many familiar but uniquely expressed themes and also a few points missed in my own research for writing Meeting at the River. In dismantling the prudish “purdah” modesty held by the modern church, Aaron Frost blows the cover on willful misinterpretations of Scripture, letting the Bible speak God's mind on nakedness, clothing and modesty. Arguing from clear evidence in Bible times, ancient civilizations and more recent cultures, he shows how the church has exported Western pornography worldwide by spreading this heretical prudery as if it were God’s truth. As reactive as some might be to these assertions, they are undeniably true, and Aaron concludes his book by appealing for Christian’s to repent from these ungodly "purdah" teachings and return to godly modesty. He also urges an openmindedness toward the Christian community of nudists/naturists who are already living out the spirit of that true biblical modesty. This book could use an ISBN, copyright date, a few spelling/grammar corrections, and perhaps a smaller font size, but it’s a very worthwhile investment for anyone interested in exploring an excellent verification of “body acceptance.” But those who learn its contents will only add to the guilt of their pagan “purdah”-promotion if they are determined to stay loyal to the prudery of false modesty.

Opens up your perspective
When you slow down and really read not just this book but the Bible along with it the answers were always present, but may have been clouded by your cultural upbringing. This book can help you understand so much about US culture and biases and how Religion and Politics have created some of the worst social problems in America.

Excellent book
This is a well written book. Lots of detail as to why our Western culture is the way it is and Biblical insight as to how individuals can return to the state of 'naked and not ashamed'.If the author would read 'The Greatest Lie on Earth' by Edward Hendrie he might remove one paragraph from the last chapter of the book.

Well researched and an informative read
The case Aaron makes throughout is very persuasive and I really liked how he covered so many different angles where nudity and Christianity intersect -- from scriptural texts and their meanings, cultural attitudes toward nudity from various times and places, to how ancient Christians included nudity in their practices. As a result of reading Aaron's book, my comfort with naturism as a beautiful and God-supported activity and way of life only solidified. Certainly a fantastic go-to resource if ever I need to refer back to his work in the future!

Thoroughly researched and insightful book.
This book is for all those seriously interested in thinking about nakedness and the body and what modesty all looks like in practice, particularly from a Christian perspective on the matter. Though the book is a little repetitive in part, I nevertheless highly recommend what it contains within its pages. I have found the explanation as to how and why we have gotten it all wrong highly persuasive and compelling. It is a thoroughly researched and persuasively eye-opening and convicting book. What you will need, however, is an open mind and heart and a willingness for God to change your thinking and heart attitudes with regard to nakedness and the body. If you are open for that to happen, then, speaking from experience, you will be blessed. For such individuals, I highly recommend the book. For others not of the same ilk, you will still find the book both informative and provocative in its content.

Large Print, Page Count is Forced
Opening the book was a little off-putting. The print was large, and blank pages to force the page count. The book is not a lengthy as the page count suggests. Most or all of this information can be found with an internet search and in a more concise and well-organized format.
