Mine came in a bag instead of the bottle as advertised. Has anyone experienced that?

Mine came in the bottle and was covered with a plastic bag as extra protection. But not by itself.

I have a 5 gal tank with conditioned water. Can I use this for a 20% water change? Or do you think it is too different to add?

I’m no fish expert, and I really don’t want to give you bad advice, but I used it for 20% water changes several times in two different tanks (one 9 gal, the other 5 gal), each with different types of existing conditioned water, with no adverse affects. I actually love this water - just wish it weren’t so expensive! Anyway, I hope the manufacturer responds with a definitive answer. Good luck!

Can this be added to fresh purified water, or must you only fill your tank with this?

You can yes. However, you will off-set the live bacteria living in the water. This is an instant solution for providing the "natural" environment for your fish. Adding tap water will kill the live bacteria that the fish need. Adding purified water will still lack the necessary nutrients and dilute the beneficial bacteria if you do not add more back. So in theory, yes you can add your water with this. Just note you are causing an imbalance of the environment needed for your fish to live and you will need to re-balance it with a water conditioner and your choice of bacteria in a bottle.
