Do I need different amp?** A: Any device that you use to connect your pump to a different power source (other than a 12v car battery) needs to be rated to handle the amperage your pump pulls. My automotive tire pump pulls 15A (amps) while this converter is rated for 500mA (milliamps) or one-half amp. I connected it through this same adapter and the pump said "No way Jose!" So I got this so I can fill the airbed in my room without taking it to the car just to fill it up. for only $4 no shipping, it worked. My only complaint was that my air pump seemed to be less strong than when I plug it into the car, which I imagine is an expected result of using an adapter.
