Work great for large pond filters. Rince easy. Reusable.
I use these for my pond filters. They trap a lot of gunk. I can wash them out and reuse them several times. They don't stay stiff once they get wet but that's not a big issue. I don't really know so much about the charcoal part of it. I'm guessing it works. I use it mostly because it's a great money saver. I usually don't cut it in small pieces except for certain things that I'm going to do. These hold up well. I can use them over and over and over. Definitely well worth the money. I like them. I do use all three. I use the ammonia, the nitrate, and the charcoal. My ammonia and my nitrate parameters are never off so I can't say that they don't work. As you can see from the picture they catch a lot of goop. All I have to do is rinse these out and they're good to go again. So I guess it just depends on what you need them for.

Great for Fish Ponds
Actually needed this to add additional filter to waterfall. I rinsed the carbon really well with water hose for several minutes before placing in my Pond. Since this was my first time using Carbon in my Large Pond (I was worried about my fish & always rinse anything I’m going to add to my Live Pond. I also cut to size for waterfall fit. This actually works wells I’ve been using for several months & seems to be working very well in my pond. Turned the color a little different but that’s normal. Fish don’t seem to be affected.I also heard charcoal helps kill some fish diseases & good to add to pond. Probably need to research more about it but I hear it’s good & beneficial.

Great for adding to aquarium filters, cut to fit
I cut small pieces of this to put inside my AquaClear powerhead filter attachment, which has a narrow opening. It's a bit messy to work with, so just do it over the sink. Also, don't use your best scissors. I use my cheapo kitchen scissors to cut it, which works fine. It's a bit stiff, but I'm an old woman with somewhat arthritic hands and I can handle cutting it with the cheap kitchen scissors. It will last me forever. Great value for this purpose.

Easily cut to size.
I purchased this filter media to make replacement filters for a pet water fountain. The filters are small and rectangular a one inch wide strip from the short edge of this pad will yield two filters for the waterer. Since the OEM filters go for about $4 each this is a real bargain. It works as well as the original and keeps the water clear for about 2 weeks, my cats are happy and well hydrated, as is the dog.

Not great
Arrived with mysterious white gunk on it. Carbon particles constantly fall out of the filter.
