The letters are made of plastic, which is less ideal than wood, but they still look good and for the price you can’t beat it! Placing them higher or further away helps you notice the plastic material less. I recommend using BRAND NEW batteries on all of the letters. I put used batteries in 2 of the 3 letters which dimmed their lights a little more than the one that had brand new batteries. I almost thought the other 2 letters were defective and considered sending them back, until I changed out the batteries and now all 3 shine brightly and evenly. Mine came with 2 remotes, which controlled all of the letters at the same time, a nice bonus!
