Collonil 1909 Creme de Luxe Shoe Cream

First reviewed September 7, 2017 – updated Dec. 2020 The polish is all natural, according to what they say, and it has a much less-strong smell than the “regular” shoe polish I've been using until now – it doesn’t have the chemical smell, just a slight lemon scent. (You smell the scent for 24 hours after polishing the shoes – which is also normal with regular shoe polish.) This polish takes bit longer to dry and be ready to buff than ‘chemical’ shoe polish. With that, by the time you finish polishing the second shoe, the first is ready to buff. With this, you have to wait twenty minutes. But this is an easy trade-off for all-natural shoe polish. You just have to be prepared. (UPDATE: You can buff even before 20 min, if you're in a rush.) Regarding what I had mentioned in the past that you can notice this polish causing scuff-marks if you bang your foot against a wall – within 24 hrs, I think regular shoe polish will do that as well, so there’s no difference. I find you can polish a pair of shoes about 24 times from one container. Obviously this depends on how much polish you use; I think I use quite a bit... Perhaps the company can make the container 2-3 times the size. I imagine one of the big expenses for them is shipping, and so it would cost less in total. TY For brushing, I use Collonil Small 3" Leather Shoe Cream Horsehair Application Brush with Light Wood Handle., 3x1in. The polish washes off the brush easily under hot water.

I cleaned shoes first, then just dabbed a bit on with a dauber, I did not over do it. Polish was dry by the time I retrieved the brush, and they shined right up. A second and third coat would be an extra added attraction, but the one coat was fine and very nice. I'm quite pleased with this product.

This cream honestly isn't as good as Saphir's high end creams. The product doesn't have the same thickness or the same level of presentation. However, for the price this is phenomenal and I think that it performs well.

Collonil 1909 black cream does nourish my boots and is a good product. It does not however put that high gloss finish, the high gloss wax product does this. But the cream is used to prevent cracking and dryness. I have no complaints about this product, it does it's job.

Normally use Meltonian, but decided to give this a try despite it being double the price. I did not care for it. This brand applies very wet and takes a while to dry before it could be buffed. It did buff out well and had a decent luster, but I found that the shine didn't last as long and had to reapply more often. Went back to Meltonian.

I first learned of Collonil shoe cream in Germany. I have used it for 18 years now and find it to be the absolute best. It is easy to apply and gives a brilliant shine

Works perfect with my black leather shoes, giving them a nice shine. Its also reassuring to know this is an all natural product, void of harsh chemicals.

I've used this product just once. It took my Prada loafers back to a newer looking glow. I like the results and will continue to use it.

Does great job to keep shoe leather well conditioned and shiny.

I use this on all my shoes and boots. I like that it soaks into the leather a bit and conditions it. Gives a soft shine. If you want a spit-shine you can see your reflection in, get a hard/waxy polish instead.

I cannot recommend this highly enough. I knew that Mulberry recommend Collonil neutral gel for their handbags so when I decided to try and give my 'oak' coloured Bayswater a second life I bought this Supreme Creme de Luxe in 'Tan'. I put it on little by little with a cotton cloth (wearing gloves) and over 3 days it sank in and buffed up. I was trying to cover up the completely worn out corners on the bottom of the bag where there was literally no colour left on the leather and this has done an admirable job of rejuvinating and reinstating some colour. I would definitely try this on other bags of similar high value now that I know it works so well. I would, however, say that I tested a small amount on the cloche that covers the padlock first to see if the colour matched and I will continue to test on unobtrusive small areas if I do this again on other bags.
