Great ladder stabilizer
The stabilizer has never failed me even in steep ground. I bought this because I had to paint a building on the side where there were several steps and did not want to use blocks of wood. I have nearly fallen a few times on ladders without this tool and have been left hanging on one leg on the ground and the opposing leg on the wall. The only thing to consider is the fact that there is some play in the device and the longer the leg the more it will sag. I am not sure how to solve that problem but to take that into account when setting the ladder. Do not clip this ladder attachment onto any plastic parts on the rungs because the plastic is too slippery. It grips tight on the aluminum rungs though. This attachment is heavy and makes the ladder heavy but it also aid in helping to tip the ladder upright. I found that since using this attachment I have never had trouble with a ladder getting away from me when trying to upright it. The arc of the attachment works better after using it awhile because the mechanism is freer. I found that the attachment works with about a 13" differential in height within the width of the ladder. The best thing about this attachment is that the ladder does not have to be altered and the ladder can be used without the attachment on level surfaces. Unlike others which have a pin incremental adjustment this attachment allows the ladder to be micro-adjusted by stepping on one of the pedals on the attachment that is one the side of ladder in the direction the ladder needs to go. Not quite two years after I purchased my first attachment I bought another I used it on each ladder with ladder jacks and some planks when siding a building that was 23 feet at the peak. Sometimes it is a nice feature that this attachment adds some length to the ladder and allows the ladder to go about 10" higher.Because this attachment is steel it adds weight to the bottom end of the ladder. This is a benefit when bringing the ladder from the ground into the proper vertical position. You can grab the ladder in the middle and walk down the ladder to tilt it up without the ladder coming off the ground on the bottom end. I have two 24 ft. fiberglass extension ladders that are rated at 300 lbs. and have this attachment on each one. I will never go back to the old way of using blocks or digging dirt to place the ladder.Almost years later after I bought the first attachment I bought another and I am still using this attachment on each ladder and would recommend it with no reservations.

It did not work with my Werner MT-13 MT-22 ladders. Qualcraft tech reps didn't want to resolve this fit issue .
The unwanted frustration is the reason for 2 stars.1. The product should work with MT ladders based on their installation manual. The single sheet manual shows a typical extension ladder on one side, and the other page for a "MT Ladder." I have Werner MT-13, MT-22 ladders and Basemate won't fit because a. Wide Rungs (see pics) b. 2 pairs of Brackets below the first rung, on both side of the vertical frames. And, this was not mentioned, other than "most" of the ladders.2. I emailed the Qualcraft located in Mansfield, MA, and I got a quick call back from the company within 15 min, but, because my name is foreign, the Tech rep kept repeating that Basemate was for American Standard ladders only, assuming that I might not be in USA. That was extremely annoying. I kept repeating that I got my Werner MT ladders from HD in MA. And, Werner is an American company. But, that didn't stop him from repeating himself saying that it was for American Standard Ladders.3. He saw the issues I had in the pics, then, he said that I should go and ask Werners to discuss this issue - Bastemate doesn't fit Werner ladders. That was another non-sense comment. When Werner has their own Leveler product, why should Werner help me with Basemate compatibility issue?4. I suggested the tech rap to improve the clamp design , with a little bigger triangle-shape clamp, with longer distance between the hinge of the clamp and the base catch, covered with a black plastic (in the pic) so that Werner or any other wider MT ladder rungs can be clamped securely. The rep flatly refused to consider improving their product, but he said that I should simply return their product to the vendor(amazon.com) He greatly lacked the sincerity and eagerness to help. Very relaxed and unprofessional.5. The rep did not even know the package came with the "MT ladder installation manual." And, he still denied their product won't fit any MT ladders. I even mentioned some reviewers on Amazon.com had Werner MT ladders that fit Basemate. Then, he said, the product will fit "most," not all the ladder types. Now, that is lame. I insisted the company add some disclaimer drawn for amazon.com websites, with exceptions.6. At this point, I realized that the company won't help to resolve my installation issue or is not interested in resolving my issue,That lazy tech support deserves -2 stars, but the product idea was great, 4 stars.Tips :7. Those straight vertical clamp bars will be placed on the inside of the ladder clamped on the First and Second Rungs. Your ladder should not have any bracket like mine.8. If you have Werner MT ladders, you might not have the right size rung for Basemate.9. Qualcraft number is hard to find, and not printed in any of their package or manual. It is 1-800-231-5647.Until the product details changes, consider other options.I needed it for the staircase, and we ended up building a L-shape plywood platform that covers 3~4 steps with a diagonal bracket. That was quick and fast. I shouldn't have wasted a couple of days or researching and sending emails and exchanging phone calls with these lazy and poorly knowledgeable reps in Qualcraft.

A good stabilizer.
This stabilizer works very well. The only thing I dont like about it is that with the basemate connected the bottom 2 steps of the ladder are very small and narrow. Otherwise if anyone is looking for a good solid stabilizer this is the one. The ladder is very solid and the adjustment is very simple. attaching it to the ladder is very simple once the initial set up attachment is done. Adjusting for a different ladder is simple. Overall this is a good product and well worth the money if you work on uneven terrain.

Terrible directions for assembly
Did not fit my Werner multi ladder. Terrible directions for assembly. From condition of packaging, it had obviously already been returned once before.

This Qualcraft Basemate improves the ladder, but I like the Little Giant much better.
The extra width it gives the ladder makes the ladder much more stable. For this reason I like the unit. It also gives extra height to the ladder. The reason I gave it 3 Stars is because it is extremely heavy. It made my 16 foot aluminum ladder very hard to handle due to the weight of this Basemate. Also, it was not as easy as I expected to easily adjust the legs for uneven ground. I replaced my ladder with this Basemate with this type of Little Giant ladder (www.littlegiantladder.com/revolution/). I have been very pleased with this ladder even though it is also quite heavy. I feel much more stable on the 22 foot Little Giant ladder due to its extra wide base. Also, the ratcheting feet on the Little Giant works much better than the ground leveling effect of the Basemate device on standard aluminum ladder.
