It's important to notice that this is indeed a sketchbook, full of well: sketches, scribbles, and quite a few messy paintings (no Maxx, no Batman, no finished illustration...it's as plain and simple as its name: it's a sketchbook). BUT, all of that is cool. They all show the impressive style of the talented Mr. Sam Kieth :)This is what Sam Kieth himself writes in the introduction to this sketchbook: "I don't know about you, but what I pick up a sketchbook for ARE the mistakes - the whiteout, scribbles, "bad" art, Sharpie pens bleeding through from art on the other side of pages. It's a peek behind the curtain, isn't it? I'll throw in a few current paintings, too; abstracts, nothing too scarry. Indulge me, OK?"I really like this book, and I'm looking forward to the second sketchbook ( Sam Kieth Sketchbook #2 ), and for what he also says in the introduction, we should also be expecting a full "art of Sam Kieth" in the future: "Look, it's either incredibly ballsy or incredibly stupid to come out with a series of 48-pages sketchbooks BEFORE the big art book, right? He's amazing. My one thing is that this has seriously awesome art, bu you will find a lot of it out there on the net. It also doesn't give any ne insight into Kieth as an Artist or Person, just shows off more his amazing work, down to the lines.
