I bought two of these, one for my sister and one for me, so that we could take them with us to college. Mine has a permanent home in my purse and is always within arms reach in case of an emergency. It's small and easy to hold in your fist. Thankfully, I've never had to use this on somebody, but just having it with me makes me feel safe. The plastic part that has the clip on it can be removed, I don't know if that was the purpose of it, but It fell off my sister's bottle. It's easy to put it back on. Its size makes it easy to hide under a shirt when it's clipped to your pants or inside your hand. How to use: Give yourself a thumbs up for buying this product. Then place the pepper spray in your palm so that your four fingers wrap around the body of the pepper spray, the part that has the writing on it. Place your thumb next to the red lever that sticks out. This red little lever can be slid from side to side. That motion either 'opens' or 'closes' the little hole that the pepper spray shoots out of. NEVER AIM THAT HOLE AT YOURSELF. ALWAYS HAVE THE RED LEVER POINTED AT YOU, NEXT TO YOUR THUMB. Hold the pepper spray at arms length away from you and slide the lever to the side that exposes the hole and point it at your attacker's face. Press down on the lever and watch a strong stream of pepper spray assault your attacker. Run away. (Again, I've never used this on someone, but I have practised using it outside when I first got it to make sure it worked and to see how it worked. You should do this too, just make sure you're not pointing it at someone.) I really like this little can. I have some thought on improvements that I will speak to shortly. I work as a part time law enforcement officer and also in private security. Off duty I wanted an intermediate for option, and having be sprayed with OC on several occasions I know OC makes more sense than a $300 taser for most people. This device is small, and light, easy to carry, and perfectly safe for an adult to toss in a pocket or purse. That said my largest concern is the safety mechanism, I feel it should be more difficult to disengage. Simply making for a more positive "click" would give me more peace of mind. Second the pocket clip it comes with is useful, but not in the manner they provide it. The way the can sits as is when you get it, leaves the entire head sticking out of your pocket if that's where you choose to carry it. Fixed easily by slipping it off, flipping it over, and adding some adhesive loop Velcro to the inside for a snug fit. It now carries deeper and will look like a flashlight to most people. I am still waiting for my practice can to arrive to see how firm the button must be pushed and to see how the stream behaves. I will probably also get another live one to spray a sample to expose myself to get an idea of potency. After that I will edit this review and if all goes well, I anticipate a 5 star review especially for the price of these.
