J. Herbin Fountn Pen Ink 30Ml Violette Pensee

This color is perfect. I would categorize it as a dark olive green. It writes really smoothly and dries quickly on my MD paper.

If you look at the Serial Number on a 2009 series $10 bill, that what this color looks like to me. It feels like old money, military, faded green jeeps from the 50's...I love it! It's loaded in my noodlers Ahab Flex nib pen. It comes out wet but dries with NO feathering on cheap staples printer paper.On this paper there is no bleed with regular writing. At maximum soakage/pressure (remember this is a $20 pen so it takes extra pressure to spread the tines) there are traces of bleed through but you could probably still write on both sides of the page.Shades beautifully making it a good choice for monochromatice sketches and drawing.This is the only green so I have nothing to compare it to.Cons: This not a dark green...in fact it comes out very light when writing quickly with "normal" pressure. However, I just remembered the pen I am testing with. It comes with very conservative flow and you need to hack the nib if you want a gusher.Pros: This ink is great for lettering and drawing where you are looking at, and controlling the amount of ink being laid down on the paper.

One of the highest quality inks.

Smooth ink with nice shading and pleasant tones. It settles on the paper like a string of light rain quickly soaking in and leaving a very visually textured look with different t hues and depths of color. I use them in a kaweco fountain pen. Listen, this isn’t a black sharpie here. We’re talking instead about pen laying down ink with such rich hues, colors with lights and darks and in between and it is just nigh phenomenal. Perfect. Doesn’t bleed either so no worries about a mess. Nifty little tin storage tin. Makes me feel like I’m back in Paris, jotting notes for my next novel about a man and his dog and the range of life experiences they share as they wind their way around France during 1974. This ink makes writing a joy. It almost channels me to Paris which helps when writing. Oui!

Herbin Diabolo Menthe-Beautiful but Unusable InkI don’t know why I bought this ink. I got it in of those 30ml Herbin bottles, bigger than a sample, but not a 50 or 60ml commitment. It’s a beautiful clear blue sky color…but it’s SO light, that even in a broad or flex nib it’s very hard to read to the point of being unusable 🤷🏻‍♂️

Surprised to see how diluted, unsaturated and washed-out this ink is. Like a good olive green (Faber and Castell's for example) but watered down. Very disappointed. Nothing like the color swatch, unless in fact it was an adulterated bottle of ink that I received.

Have used it both with a fountain pen and dip pen. Love the brand, always consistent quality and lovely subtle colour.

If you like to have a lot of different colours, full size bottles can be a little too much ink. Cartridges are one option, but these smaller sized bottles are also a great choice, and the pricing means these are excellent value.The colour is beautiful - it's got a faded character with variation when you write that makes it easy on the eyes, stands out, and still looks professional. It's simply one of my favourite colours to use.I've used it in a number of pens now, from my Jinhao EF to a vintage Mont Blanc with a broad nib, and this is definitely one where I like going a little broader to enjoy the colour, although the ink works well in different sizes and has excellent flow. It is a slightly wet ink and it's not very waterproof, so you need to be a little careful, but it's a great ink and one of my favourites. It can be used in a number of different ways, from formal office settings to personal use because it's a very versatile shade.
