Meditation and Its Methods by Swami Vivekananda

One of the world's greatest spiritual teachers
When I read that I was born on the same day of Swami Vivekananda, I could not believe my eyes. I can only imagine knowing him, I would have been his disciple for sure. There is no doubt that some Cosmic coincidence I share with the master. I do not know details on why he left his body so early at 39. He was intellectually exhausted. For those of you who have heard the word yoga many times before, it was Vivekananda the first person in the world who officially introduced yoga to the West. Other masters came after him, Yogananda was one of the most recognized figures, however, Vivekananda can show you in simple terms what is meditation by describing many terms, in how to be detached, the power of meditation as a science and the right time to meditate and why we must set aside everyday a space to achieve such state of bliss and purification of the mind.

Great book, really short and sweet, Granmar is off a little
Great book, but some of the translations and english grammar is off, and i question some of the logic has been transformed and strays from the meaning. I would say 85-90% of the book is correct but some points i question if Swami V said what was written or it was translated poorly.

Wonderful book especially for young people
This is a wonderful book - helps to get young people on the path of meditation. Vivekananda is forceful and easy to understand. He encourages people to work in the world rather that run away to a monastery or mountain cave. And yet while working, producing and accomplishing their aims, he shows how not to get entangled in the world.

Every Yoga & Meditation practitioner should read this book once in a life time - 5 stars
If there would be someone to born in this earth again to embellish our lives, it would be Vivekananda himself again. Because, Swami Vivekananda was not just a scholar or philosopher but an avatar is what I would say. None has impacted the way Swami has in my life. This book is another example of his stellar works for Yoga and Meditation practitioners. Despite its a small book, the details that are imparted are priceless. If you are a beginner and wanna kick start the magnificent journey of Meditation, just buy this book and try to understand what meditation is all about and how to begin with. Swami Vivekananda and his books will never a day let you down with your expectations.

Did not find it useful.
Was looking for something to enhance my knowledge about meditation rather than religion, if I may find God or religion through meditation, be it, come as it may, however, the book instead of providing the methods of meditation, gives a taste of sins being committed if we're not meditating and the benefits we reap if we detach ourselves from everyone and everything. If detachment must come, it shall come by itself through mediation, show me the path not the destination.

Contents not organised.
It's a collection from Swami Vivekanand's teachings but it is not organised. Author just explains the benefits of the meditation repeatedly but explains how to do the meditation in hardly one paragraph. Overwall, I feel not worth the time and money. There is very little learning out of it.

A Good Timeless read
The book is not in regular form. It is piecemeal form, in conversational form between Swamiji and His Disciple. What I liked about the book is the eternal youthful advice about life. This advice was given by swamiji in 1890s to early 1900s. Still it holds true. And it’ll still hold true in the times to come. What i did not like very much is the jumping between the topics.Although I’ll re read the book after sometime again to gain more out it.
