The points are very sharp - sharp enough to draw blood if you are not careful. I do not know the type of steel they are constructed of. It is a very nice instrument.

It does come with a supply of lead, and two pointers. One pointer is double-sided.

What size refills does it take

The Weems & Plath 176 Dividers use 2mm replacement leads.

What are the dimensions of this product? I am looking for a 7in pair, is that what this one is?

Yes, these are labeled as a 7" pair. I might add, these are very high quality. I purchased two pairs for a going through all of the US Power Squadron classes on piloting and navigation. I used one pair for drawing and the second pair for measuring.
