will definitely buy more over time
Bought the first one because I read the review. Loved it when it came in the mail.Since my first purchase I have added several more to my home and I've purchased a few for my friends who love new fancy technology. The update process out of the box was extremely painful, it would lose connection several times, and I could never tell if it was actually working. I downloaded the update app to install from my PC over the wifi and it worked the first time.We use it to dim the lights when relaxing and watching movies. The app is very simple to use, and you can save an unlimited number of preset moods. There are some party settings that will coordinate random colors throughout the house.Works with Nest support is is the main reason I bought LIFX instead of Phllips Hue (at the time Hue did not have Nest support. These lights are awesome.I can turn off all the lights in the house once I get in bed each night knowing that I didn't forget one of them. One feature I look forward to using when we are away on vacation it simulates someone being home by turning lights on and off. Brightness is good too.I bought the white version too. It blends in with the light fixtures.

Bright w/ Good Colors & Simple App
Pros:With the new firmware it does everything I need/want. Links with NEST, works with IFTTT, and the app (android) is quick and works from anywhere on the internet once you set it up with the cloud. The colors, brightness, and effects are cool and work well. The app and bulb are responsive. The setup was dead simple, with the firmware update taking the longest (10 min). The away mode is nice, but the more bulbs you have the better it works.Cons:The bulb is the larger A21 (vs standard home A19) size so it does not fit everything. Also it gets hot to the touch (but LIFX reports this is to keep the bulb long lasting) but I have not had any issues with it running for long periods of time.Overall I like it

No functions worked as advertised.
The hardware on this bulb is nice the color output is good but the functionality is horrible. There is not much you can do outside of changing the color while on your own network. None of the promised features have been delivered and as much as they state that they are coming the never do. After owning one of these bulbs I went and got the Philips Hue and have been pretty happy. I have since put this bulb in a drawer and have not used it. Wasted 100.00 and should have bought the Hue in the first place.

but I have been disappointed. The good is that hey are very bright ...
I backed LIFX on kickstarter and ordered four bulbs. I had very high hopes, but I have been disappointed. The good is that hey are very bright and include some neat options that hue doesn't. The bad and why I rated them so low is that the bulbs often don't appear in the app and I have to refresh a few times so I can get them all turned off. Also after I have turned them off they will sometimes flicker. For these reasons I would recommend hue right now. Also if you're buying a lot hue ends up being much cheaper.

Finally work as advertised!
Over 1000 lumens of colored goodness :) I have had connectivity issues with the Lifx bulbs but the new iOS app and bulb firmware have been working great. My bulbs are finally working properly and I can connect to them all of the time now. The remote connectivity feature is also working very well. IFTTT also works great with the bulbs.

Excellent!
I purchased two bulbs. Both are functioning as advertised, so I'm not sure why the reviews on Amazon are somewhat mixed. Set-up was easy. Looking forward to the implementation of LIFX cloud to support additional software functions. The bulbs are installed vertically in lamps with shades. Yes, the housing generates noticeable heat at full power, but it's not unreasonable. Most of the time I'm operating at 50% power, which produces no heat.I can't comment on the long-term longevity of either the wifi unit or the light itself. Given everything is solid state, the stated life of the bulb should be accurate. It would be nice if LIFX backed it with a 5 yr warranty.I'm looking forward to the GU10 bulbs.
